New to Mustangs, need diferential help... going racing :D

First off, !HI GUYS! looks like you have a great forum going on here. I'm a PRO-AM drift driver and have been given the oportunity to do an exhibition @ Hermanos Rodriquez race course in México City, with the rest of our organization.

This is our site (in spanish)
ensenadadrift.org

The cars they got us are '00 mustangs. V6, so I'm asuming they are open diff. I know it's lame but they are buying the plane tickets and paying our bills, so...

Anyway. I'll go down there, get some spare pumpkins from a junkyard and weld'em up. So my question is this:

Are all ford 8.8" rear ends the same? Could I use a 1983-97 F150 pumpkin? Or one out of an Aerostar? or a Bronco?

If so... what is the best "junkyard gold" find final-drive wise if i want the shortest gearing posible? Maybe something out of a thunderbird from the turbo era?

Any pointers, or things to watch out for when welding up a "Lincoln Locker" spool?

I know i'm an importfag and all... (I race a supercharged corolla ) but I'd appreciate any help you guys could toss my way.

Thanks in advance.

welcome to the forums. the 8.8's vary in axle size / frame size which may or may not hurt you. IE is you ran a 8.8 out of a fox body in a 99-04 mustang you would need wheel spacers. I would look for an 8.8 out of a 99-04 GT or 03-04 Mach 1.. if ya got the money grab an entire IRS out of a 2003-2004 Cobra for your application.

on a side note.. you could just buy a t-lock for the v6 .. they do make them

I'll order myself some. Do they work? They look pretty flimsy. I guess they they'll hold up since once you start the drift you require relatively little torque to keep the tires alight.

I'll let you know how they work out.
