Radar Detector Wiring

Has anyone wired a radar detector behind the dash?

So far I think I'm planning on just getting a relay and running it to the radio. My goal is to have the detector on only when the car is on. As it is now it simply plugs into the 12volt, which as we all know stays on when the car is off. I'd also like for it to look cleaner instead of the wire hanging down past the head unit.

Thanks for any input.

I just wired into a 12v source that was triggered when the key is turned for mine on my GT. I don't remember where I tapped into tho...ask Wraither on here. He'll give you an answer in about .0362 seconds.

I put mine on the drivers side corner and ran the wire under the edge of the dashboard, down the side and into the fuse block. There are a couple ground screws in there you can use. Put a ring connector on the end of ground wire and secure it to the screw. Take the hot wire for the detector and strip it, then wrap it around the post of the radio fuse and reinsert the fuse into the block. Now everytime you turn on your cars ignition, the detector will come on. It has a neat and clean appearence as well.

If you don't have a ring connector, just strip the ground wire and make a loop long enough to go around one of the ground screws a couple times. Back one of the ground screws out a little bit, then wrap the wire around it a couple of times. When you tighten the ground screw back up the wire will stay put until you loosen it again.

You do know you should have your radar detector mounted high enough on the windshield so it can shoot a signal out of the rear window right?

That's what I always thought too, but the directions that came with this one said it was best to mount low on the windshield and elevating it would actualy decrease it's effectiveness.

Mount it just enough where it can go through the bottom of the rear windshield.

alright here you go,
if you want to catch power at the ignition harness, but you will have to make your own ground

Ignition 1 RED/LIGHT GREEN (+) IGNITION SWITCH HARNESS

if you want to go behind the radio

Ignition BLACK/PINK (+) RADIO HARNESS
Ground BLACK/GREEN (-) RADIO HARNESS
