Installing my AVH-p3100!
So according to UPS my new deck should be coming in tomorrow!!! Now here are my options...I can try to install it myself, only electronic experience i have is installing my shift light. Or I can wait until this weekend and take it to a guy an hour away who will install it free. Question is, is it that hard to do? How much time will it take? Not sure if i should solder or use something else, and I still need to buy the installation things, harness & wires from probably best buy. If i could do it in under 3 hours I'd love to just do it myself throughout the week. But I don't really know how lol, also I want to bypass it so that I can watch movies while driving.

wraitherlx helped me install my 4100...guy really knows his stuff and im sure he will chime in and help you with it...but now that i did it and look back on it its really simple it just seems like alot because thers so many wires ..no you dont have to solder get some butt connectors for 18-22 gauge wire and just have somethin to crimp and strip with and ur fine ..it can deff be done in less than 3 hours but if youre like me its gonna take u 3x that lol

ok heres the connectors
http://www.tech-cor.net/AutoResBulle...95-4-IMG01.JPG those are the type that i used...they heat shrink so the wire is less likely to come out....i just wanted to use them cause i felt more safe about my crimp job lol...u can go anywhere to get them shit wal mart or any hardware store really..same thing with the crimp/stripping tool...with the connecotrs all u do is strip like 1/2" off each end and then squeeze it together and give it a little tug after to make sure its not just gonna come right out

im not sure if youll have any unused wires...if its the same harness as mine youll have a few unused wires and you need to get some electrical tape or crimp caps to cap off the unused wires but dont get them yet cause idk if u got the same harness or if the 3100 has internal illumination and what not

i mean either way is fine..if u can solder then go for it and youll save a few dollars on the connectors.. i think when u solder it ur supposed to heat the wire instead of touching the solder to the gun thing..i dont know if thats something specific to the wiring on a cd player or if its that way with all soldering of wires..
and oh for the install shit i was just talkin about go to a hardware store for the connectors and tape and shit...for the harness' go to best buy or somewhere that does car audio

yeah yeah im gona go there for the harness, i just meant if they have it at best buy might as well get it there lol. so if i solder it, i don't need the solder wire stuff, i just heat the 2 wires together and wrap with electrical tape?

they got everything you will need at best buy. Just let them know that you have an 02 Mustang with the 460 system and let them know that you need a double din dash kit (that you are installing a double din deck). they should give you a package with 2 harness's in it. both will run you about 40 and then just ask them for the connectors, they should just give it out to you or charge your a $5 materials fee. You can solder if you like and like Bullit said, heat the wire up with the solder gun and when you think its hot enough then use the solder on the wire

Went to best buy...and i'm a little pissed and i'm feeling impatient. I'm pretty sure the guy gave me the wrong harness install thing. its for a single din and has a little tray thing. also, the crimp things i got to connect the wires are impossibly hard to close at the ends. pictures:

That 2nd pic isn't correct. You need this:
Here's what you'll need to install it in your car trueblue... Ford Receiver Wire Harness For select 2001-03 Ford Mustang and 2003 Lincoln LS models at Crutchfield.com & Ford In-dash Receiver Kit Fits select 2001-up Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury models Chassis size DD at Crutchfield.com

match "ALL" the colors to their exact COLOR. that yellow/black wire is for "MUTE" which you do not need. Connect those YELLOW wires together. Yellow from ford harness to Yellow from pioneer harness. The dash kit you have is wrong. You need to specifically tell them that you have a DOUBLE DIN deck and that you need a dash kit for a DOUBLE DIN RADIO. be careful with those crimp caps as they are rather large for those wires and you may run a chance of not crimping them correctly at which they can fall right off.
