Parking Brake Light ON!

HI,

I have the parking brake warning light always on even when i release the parking brake. I have checked the fluid level, and it seems fine. What could be the problem? Is there any thing i can do to remove this.

I have a 2001 mustang V6

welcome to MM... i had that same problem with my 00... as odd as this my sound i changed a couple of my fuses and it turned off... its annoying ant it

Does it drive like the break in on or when you turn i off does it turn off?

If the break isn't staying on it is probably a short if the break is staying engaged it is something in your P-break linkage.

When i release the hand brake, it drives OK, the brake is not stock, but the light is on...When i engage the hand brake the car stops perfectly ...Which fuses have you changed?

sometimes my e-brake stays on even when its not engaged cuz i turn my key to far forward in my ignition

If you can get to the wires just jiggle them lightly and see if it flashes if so you have a short.

This means its not a serious issue? the mechanical system is working fine and only some electronics and wiring need to bec checked out ! ... This is my first Mustang i used to drive Holden --> Commadore

don't worry your not going to die lol its either one of 2 things a short in the ebrake switch in the the center console, or your ebrake is seized and is not disengaging fully in the rear end so get the rear drum breaks checked.

I had this exact problem after my dad drove my car. what i found after a day of trying to figure out what was wrong was that some how he knocked the sensor off the break. on my 98 mustang there is a clip kinda that connects to the break and it was unhooked and that tells the lights to go on and off. so i would check under the dash where the break pad and make sure every thing is connected right. good luck

the sensor for the e-break is no located under the dash your issue was totally unrelated to this one please read more carefully it will help prevent confusion.. now the sensor to the emergency break is located inside the center console connected to the emergency break lever assembly.

check out your switch at the ebrake, make sure that it is not loose

As long as it is driving fine and the e-brake isn't staying engaged your fine.

ok so i too have a 98 mustang my brake light won't come on anyone know anything and how would i take the center console out.

If the brake is not stock it sound like they forgot to hook up the sensor that controls the light.
