Mach 460

Anyone have any ideas on why my Mach 460 in my 00 sixer seems to not let my cds come back out? They get stuck in there no matter how many times I press eject... sometimes i have to press it a hundred times before the damn thing will come out. I don't have burnt cds, nor ones with any labels on them... all standard music cds. It makes a clicking sound like it's "working" to get it out, then nothing happens.

It's rather annoying.

I asked this at MF, but all I got were jackass answers. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

call your dealer and see where the authorized service center is for the radios and take it in. sounds like it's time for a good cleaning.

Any idea on how much that would cost? My car is 5 years old, thus not under warranty.

Or, could this be done on my own? My man is pretty electronics savvy... but I don't know if I want to risk it.

It sounds like the gears are stripped in the ejector. If it were me, I would pull the factory cd player ut and replace it with a "delete" kit (which is really just a fancy name for the little pocket that goes under the factory reciever) then add a disc changer in the trunk. Either that or reemove the factory system all together and add an aftermarket deck (Kenwood, Pioneer, Sony....). Sounds drastic but it will DEFFINATELY be cheaper than replacing factory stuff.

cost to repair the factory unit is usually $200-300 depending on the actual part # of the unit itself. And yes, you don't have to take it to a dealer, call any electronics repair center and they should be able to fix it for you but the authorized centers usually have them in stock and just do an exchange for you so it's in and out and you're done. no down time to send it off for repairs, etc. Again, call your dealer and get the name of # for your local authorized dealer, if you want to keep the factory system.

Can't go wrong with the aftermarket. Most shops (car audio stores) have some good deals and most have good warranties. If you got a couple extra pennies to spend I'd go with a higher end unit. Clarion and Eclipse are the only to head unit companies I buy from. Clarions have a better selection and quality (IMO) but Eclipse has a theft system. When you get the CD player installed, you can put in a disc and it will act like a key. If someone steals your CD player, they can't do anything with it without that CD (it won't turn on) Also if your CD player is stolen the player has a built in tracking system. If the theif plugs it in (the unit gets power) they can track it. Also they have a little red light that blinks when your car is turned off. (wow I sound like a rep for Eclipse, and out of 3 cd players I own, only one is an eclipse the others are clarion)
Heres some links
http://www.eclipse-web.com/cd/index.html
http://www.clarion.com/usa/
Most shops will have last years models still, so they will be a lower price then what is listed on the sites, (don't get scared off)

Thanks for all the suggestions guys.

For some reason, the damn thing spit the cd right out today, so I'm just not gonna use it til I decide what I'm gonna go with. I like the idea of something aftermarket, but I don't want it to look retarded with the stock interior and the aftermarket face. I dunno, I'm just weird about that.

My boyfriend was telling me I could get something called the stealth? It's plain and won't look too weird with the rest of the stock setup because it's flat black. Apparently it's kinda like the eclipse with the blinking LED or something. We might look into that when he gets home from the army in a few weeks.

I'll let you guys know what i decide. I might go with the disk changer though, as I have always wanted one.

I'm not really sure, it's supposedly a CD deck much like what jinx suggested. I didn't really ask him about it because it's the last thing I wanna talk about when we only get limited time to talk until he gets outta the army. hehe.

I;m gonna look for some info on it later online and see what i can find though.

I think you'd be happy with an eclipse. I personally think aftermarket head units look better then stock. My girlfriend on the other hand doesn't. So to each their own. I blew out a door speaker in the ranger and need to replace the sylinoid (spelling) for the electric door locks, so sounds like I'll be making a trip to the local sterio shop this weekend. I'll try to look at some units and get some prices for ya.

The only thing here is that $200-300 will buy top of the line aftermarket stuff. Unless youre just that hooked on the factory unit or youre trying to restore, why pay that much for another factory deck?? IDK, just my opinion. Not to mention, in my experiences, the sound quality is almost always WAY better than factory.

usually, the best factory thing is idea for the car... then once the car is made, everything can usually be replaced

I had the same exact problem. I managed to get it fixed just at the end of my warranty. I'm sorry this doesn't help much but atleast you know that it's not just your radio. You can find these radios really cheap on ebay by the way. That might be your best bet. In the case of mine, the problem often happened when it was hot, as in the radio itself was hot, not hot outside. I could usually get my CDs back the next morning or whatever.

Sounds like a case of the metal parts inside the din expanding when it's warm and not releasing the cd. One of my clarions used to skip when it got hot (the unit got hot) I had to send it off and they replaced the arm that holds the laser that reads the cd. They claimed that the piece of metal was too thin so it would expand when it got hot, and make the cd skip. Ebay probably is a good place to look if you want to stay stock. Shoot I got 3 stock radios in my garage but none are for a stang

it's a typical problem with these decks. if it's under warranty, take it to the dealer.

hit the eject button a few times as you turn the key on and it SHOULD eject. if ya lived closer, I'd take the deck out and fix it for ya. or try HOLDING the eject button and turn on your key and see if that'll work for ya too.
