Which Way Should I Mount The Subs?

should i mount them towards me or away from me? i have seen it done both ways so which one sounds better?

Facing away from you for the best sound.

Facing away from you gives you the best sound because you cant hear the speaker distort.And the sound waves get more room to bounce around which makes the sound more intense.

My box doesn't fit in there lol, so maybe I should cut the top off that's catching and then just screw on a thin board there or something.

I wouldn't cut off anythimg because you'll make the box smaller and it may be too small for your subs.Your best bet would be to get a custom box built to fit in your trunk the way you want them too.If you have a ported box right now you could switch to a sealed box(which would be smaller than a ported box),unless you have a small amp you wouldn't notice too much difference in the sound. If you wanted,you could give me the measurements of you trunk and the type(model number)of your subs and I could get ya some plans for a box that will fit.Send me an E-mail at hpjunkie302@netzero.net if you want.

i took the back seat completely out to get my box in. the deminsions are 13" high x 36" long x 19' deep. approx. 1.9 cubic feet of air space. this box is ported. also it is for two 12's.

how much air space does each 12 require? If they require 1 ft3 a piece,the box is too small. You have to account for each speakers displacement also when considering total volume of the box.Since it is a ported box I will almost bet its way too small for your subs as most 12's need almost a foot and a half a piece of air space when using a ported enclosure. let me know what type of subs you have and what model number and I'll do some research and see if i can come up with a box that will fit how you want and sound superb.E-mail at hpjunkie302@netzero.net if your interested.

I have 2 12inch alpine type Rs and they wont fit in the trunk so I put them in the back seat and it actually sounds better facing upwards for one the trunk does not shake and it sounds better outside as well
