Head Unit Install

Hey, I am getting an Alpine Head Unit today. I need help on installing it. Do I remove the dash? Where do I start...
Is there a video I can watch, or a Guide to taking it off, taking out the factory HU and installing an Aftermarket one? Please help. I'm getting it today at 2:00pm, it's 12:30pm right now. I have to be at work at 4:00pm. I'd like to have it in by the time I go to work. Please refer me to a guide.
Ty!

you need to buy a wire harness to connect your new head unit to the factory style plugs. Fords headunits are dimm style, so if you go to a stereo place, they should be able to pull it out for you.....or you can make your own tool with at metal coat hanger.

if the sn95 is the same as new edge...

the piece with the cig light and etc comes out first. then the piece that goes up the dash. then if you got the stock unit you need the tools to take it out and slide your in. you also need an install kit. the plastic around it. it holds your can in place.

on the 97 i use to have all you had to do was take out the stock head unit and place the new head unit in. i put in an eclipse brand deck and it was the same size as the stock tape deck. if you have to take out the plastic piece around the deck, it should pull right out. i never had to take anything but the deck out though.

been there done it dude.
theres gonna be soldering. you need heat shrink some solder and a soldering gun. the wiring harness only has wires so you need to splice the wires together. Most wiring harnesses come with diagrams so thatll be the most helpful thing.

1. take off your dash. to do this, take the shifter plastic off. It is on top of the part you need ot take off. take a flat tip screw driver and put it in the crack where your dash meet the shifter bowl I guess youd call it. pop it up and just let it sit there.

2 take off the dash. to do so, do the same as you did with the shifter, but on the dash. I found it easier to work from the a/c vents down.

3. take the dash off and at the bottom there will the defroster, trac on/off, and fog light switches. pop the connectors out, not the buttons (pain in the ass with big fingers) and just put the dash in your back seat.

4. get a nut driver, 1/4'' I think it was and unscrew the stock headunit. when you pull it out theres going to be wires connecting it to the car. Pop these out. a few are a little pain in the ass.

5. go back inside your house and get the wiring harness. now find a diagram of your system on the internet. make sure all the wires match up. if i remember right wires 3 and 7 are ground. just look it up.

6. now the soldering. take your wiring harness and the headunit connector. most of the time theyll all be color coded and good to go. but open your manual for the headunit and do it by the book. match every wire up that needs to be.

7. to solder the wires together, you take a wire stripper and strip the wire cover off to expose about 1/2 of wire.put a heat shrink tube about 1in long on every wire. now take the matching wires and form them into an X. now fold them voer each other until you get it as flat as possible. now take your solder and soldering gun. take some solder and put it on the gun. put that UNDER the wires to create a bridge. it transfers the heat to melt the rest. now take the solder and go across the top of the wires. try not to get the wire covers as this will melt it. after you get the solder on there itsnow time for the heat shrink

8. pull the heat shrink up and put it over the joined wires. take a lighter and go lightly across the tubing. make sure it shrinks tightly and try not to burn it. it doesnt hurt it if you d, but try to avoid at all costs.

9. after you get every wire spliced, its time to hook this SOAB up. take the headunit, the headunit casing, and the wiring harness out to the car. hook everything up. make sure everything fits well. if it doesnt fit, DONT FORCE IT. work with it and move it around. once you get the headunit in and all is good, make sure the casing is centered and in a good spot.

10. put the dash back on and then snap the shifter bowl back into place. make sure everyhting looks good and your good to go.

get that thing jammin man
