Custom Sub/Amp setup ideasTHE BOX: I saw this box on ebay, and I want to have the front of mine look almost identical to this. eBay Motors: 1994-04 MUSTANG Custom Subwoofer Enclosure Sub Box (item 380013351416 end time Apr-11-08 16:53:48 PDT) I do not want to pay $140 for it, but at the same time I dont know how to cut the curves on the ends over the wheels. I have a jigsaw, I just dont know how to do it. So there is the first advice I need; How would I cut the curves over the wheels? With that design there are 2 different chamber per sub, sealed. I want mine to be a single chamber ported in the middle if thats possible. 2 chambers and a port per chamber would be fine also. THE AMPS: For the amps (one atm, 2 later on) I want to have a area to hold them in front of the subs. My idea was to have 2 boards come from the front of the Sub box straight to the back of the trunk, covered on top by another board going to the side of the car. That way, there are cubes on the sides of the trunk of me to mount the amp and hide wires inside. Hope this makes sense, if not I can make a draft later tonight. SO, the main thing holding me back is how would i cut these curves witha jigsaw? I know to you cardboard to make the lines, lay it on the wood, and cut along it... however I dont know how to get the cardboard cut right. SHOW QUALITYS Now, I want to make it look stunning. I was thinking carpet on the tops and very bottoms of the construction, but fiberglass the middle all the way around and paint it bright red. My problem here, is that I dont know how to fiberglass and I would have to use spray for the paint, I dont own a spray gun. Thanks in advance, I plan on making this thing look show quality, and any help will be much apperciated and not go unoticed.

Just take your sweet ass time, take cardboard and draw a curve that you know is not going to fit. Then cut it out with a box cutter, then slowly trim more and more, checking it on the curve of the tire until the curve is perfect.

Ya, thats what I thought of while at work. Wonder where I can get some flat cardboard. Guess I could buy some display boards from walmart and use them?
Also... where can I get MDF board from... local hardware store does not carry it. I guess now I just need some info on how to put a small layer of fiberglass around the middle to paint.

Ya, i saw that one. I would get it if they could make a port on it. I asked them and they said no ports could be installed. Plus I dont like how it just kind of sits in the trunk. I want something that goes with the body.
I cut some cardboard tonight for the tirwells. I got it damn near close. Im gonna get me some Plywood I got laying around and cut it to what I have, see how it works, recut it, and so on... get a peice of ply to the exact shape I need, and trace it onto some MDF and start the box. Still need some help on my idea for fiberglassing the middle of the box, thanks !

What about a setup where the subs are viewable when the seat is lowerd? Like, build a rearseat delete and build a box right behind it... Which would look better at a show in your opionons?

in the new edges its fairly difficult to build a box that fits to that opening and the sub will prolly have to be a 10

My ideal plan is to make some small custom boxes to fit 10s prolly and fit em into the recess area right infront of the tail lights. After that I want to find a Mach 1000 amp rack... paint it body color (silver in my case) and paint over the Mach 1000 logo too. Mount my amps in that and install everything like it should go and for toppers I want to find a Kenwood or Alpine sticker or have one made to fit across the amp rack like the Mach 1000 logo once did.
IMO this would be the perfect set up for me cuz then I can still use the majority of my trunk space... true I wont have 15s thumping in the back, but I dont need that much. |
