Final Verdict On Dealing With Mach 460

I have a 2000GT. I need a final verdict on what to do, and you guys probably can help me decide better than myself.

I have heard mixed things about wiring harnesses but the general conclusion seems to be that they make it sound worse than the stock.

I really do want to just replace the entire thing, but I want to do it myself.

Anyone got the speaker sizes for the rear and front onhand? Oh yeah, and those little ones at the top of the doors too, whatever their "technical name is".

I was thinking I could set aside a day, install the new speakers, subs, amp and headunit and then just pull the new wiring through using the old.

Any comments on how well this will or won't work? Unless anyones got something easier.

Who said you needed to rewire it?

That is absurd...

You need the adapter that Mitre makes for the 460 headunit...If your car is a factory 460 then you can use the stock amps...The adapter will allow you to do that...

Check www.crutchfield.com for the speaker sizes and such...

No one said I need to rewire but I've got plans for it, and I want a custom headunit which has my GPS, and Aux MP3 player jack with a bluetooth kit, it doesnt fit the cr now because of the mach 460 crap and everyone said the harnass will kill sound quality because it bypasses the amps and all and everything is powered off the ford amp so thus it will sound like crap?

WEll if you want to put a screen in there get some fiberglass lessons...

Your year has the 2 seperate decks so that is good...

Cut the cent bezel out bewtween the two decks...

Rough it up and glass it for the screen...

Its not that tough...

You can rid of the amps if you want...But if I was you I would just run RCA's to the back and then run the wires to the speakers from the amp rather then running all new wire from the head-unit...It would keep things from being cluttered and would give you more control...

If you need any help let me know...

You can PM me or email me @ chrisjobe@gmail.com

I have quite a few years of custom installs under my belt...And actually used to do it for a living...

i'm having 460 probs too chris.. does that adapter bypass the factory amps?? the guy at the stereo shop said my amps were probably going bad becuase the left side speakers cut in & out.. but he said the problem could be that i have an aftermarket head unit.. what should i do with this situation?!

I would say it is that as the amps turn on by signal and the mach 360 give a signal at all times when on(sound signal not remote on but has the to as it compairs the 2 signals)also knon as hi level inputs. The amps are matched to the head unit and EQ`d as so also. You swap the amps or the head unit one without the other and the SQ most times is worse because of this matched EQ set up in the amps.If you look at the amps they have one for rear 6x8`s and one for front 6x8`s then one for all 4 tweeters. If you add afer market speakers you will notice the EQ in it.This is done in the head unit and the amps are made to go side by side in the system.

How ever you say all left side cut in and out?front and back? I would look at your wiring as using stock amps?see using stock amps your left side goes to 3 amps one amp per left 6x8 and one amp to front and rear tweeters.try reversing you left and right out tou see if it changes sides in nopt its something else if so look at wiring.

As of yet no one makes a true adapter bypass for this system, for changing the deck, amps or the whole system.

aftermarket head unit is best to run on an aftermarket amp even your cheap ass Legacy and other brands will sound better then the factory amps.

Oh one other thing you have all mach speakers? If they are after market this may be the other problem but we can go in that later if you are

it's usually just the left front tweeter & door speaker that goes in & out. also, the other day the right fronts went out a minute & the whole left side was working.. so i think it may be the amps in the back or the amp under the head unit going bad.. they said they could wire it up to bypass the amps & whatnot & run a different aftermarket amp... what do ya think i should do with it?? all the speakers are stock mach 460 too..

I think there is a wire problem or to low of a preamp to them as the two amps in the back run front 6x8`s and back 6x8`s only the amp in the front do the highs in front and back.Is this at all volumes? if so it`s wire problems or you damaged all 3 amps.Your best to go after market anyways you will like the system a ton more if you do.Let me know we have this narrowed right down almost

Alright. I found a sweet new headunit I have to have. However, still not sure. I found a wire harness that claims to be for the 00 GT Premium Sound System aka The mach 460. But As I mentioned, I was told it will sound like crap because those will bypass the amp.

I am on a very tight budget but want a new headunit for several reasons including I need an AUX jack to hook up my XM (the units other methods suck).

What exactly am I going to need to maintain comparable sound quality to the Mach 460 stock... with a new headunit.

Please don't say complete redo. I could... but the budget.

If your CD player has pre-amp outputs then you should be fine...

Get the Metra adapters...

Alright, so basically... if my deck has preamplified outputs it doesnt matter that the metra adapter bypasses the amp because the signal will already be preamplified.

Which.... makes sense. It actually works that simply.

No the preamps are what provides the amps with the sounds...From waht I have heard the Metra does not bypass the amps...
