Some of the newer head units have an option to purchase an ipod cable that plugs into the back of your HU and then you can control the ipods file system from the deck. If you dont have this you can still either directly hook up the ipod to the deck if it has an AUX input on the front or back. If you have neither of those options available you can still buy a IPod FM transmitter that broadcasts your music to a station you choose, then just tune into it with your HU.

FM transmitters have terrible reception and are expensive. if u have any kind of aftermarket headunit, it will have an AUX imput and you can usually get a 1/8in jack 2 RCA or a 1/8in to 1/8in or whatever kinda imput your headunit has. it has the perfect quality from the ipod instead of the FM thing.
i know that kenwood uses a special imput jack which was under $20
my sony uses RCA which was $7
either way its cheeper and better quality
