89 LX pinging from valve cover

I have a 89 LX that needs the the bottom reringed. I have plans to do this very soon. I have a blowby issue going on. However last night I took the car out and ran it a little hard a couple times and notice that I had this noise comeing from the engine everytrime I accelerated. It sound like a header leaking. When I arrived at home I lifted the hood and gave it some gas and the noise was actually coming from under my valve cover. My oil pressure was fine but my oil leve;l was down a couple of quarts. So after adding oil the noise pretty much went away unless I reved the motor it would knock right at the begining of the rev and then go away. But its coming from under the valve cover. So does this sound like push rods, valves or rockers? Any help would be appreciated.

It might sound like its coming from the valve cover but it could be coming from the lower end. If you can find a mechanic's stethescope you can narrow it down a bit more. I've seen some rod knocks that I swore were valve train noises until I tore the motor apart.

you might not have enough oil to pump up the lifters. this would cause your rockers to be loose enough they would chater
