Valve train clacking sound. Need help.

I just got my 93 mustang gt. It has a mildly built 302. The bottom is stock, but the upper has some good mods (hydraulic roller setup, top to bottom). I have had it for about 3 days and have about 3 hours on the motor. Everything was running very well until last night. I had been taking it easy with the motor and I went ahead and rapped out the RPM's to about 5000 and smoked the tires for about 2-3 seconds. After I rapped it out, I noticed a clacking sound from within the valve train. I think that it is an issue with the lifters but I am not sure. I want to change the oil and see if it helps with the lifters if that is the problem. Does that sound like a good way to start?

Thank you for the info. I do believe that I will change the oil first and see if that works. If not then I go to the next step.

Had you, or anyone, done any work on the valve train or heads recently?
