timing issues

i have a 88 mustang gt that had some things done to it before i bought it. i was told it had a new larger cam put in it however i have set the base timing twice and after driving it a day or two it loses it's timing and starts missing and sputtering. once it warms up it hunts while idling between 500 and 900 rpms. i have replaced the temperature sensor, the act, intake manifold gaskets, air bypass soleinoid, fuel injectors, o2 sensors, adjusted tp sensor, and plugs. please if you have a suggestion i would love to it. thank you

distributer gear looked fine. i am going to look at the chain this weekend.
it has to be mechanical for the timing issue. i unplugged the chip at the distributer and it ran even worse than before. the surging i am going to check grounds and vacuum leaks again to be sure. it also has a napa remaned computer in it so i believe whoever had it sold it because of these problems he couldn't fix.
