89 LX Idleing Funny Please Help

I have a 89 LX 302 bored .30 over 24 lb injectors, 65 CFM MAF/K&N filter,75MM Throttle Body, 303 cam, Amongst other goodies. I am only idleing at 800 RPM and it varys from higher to a smidge lower. Hard to keep started in cold weather until its warmed up. I have been told that is the throttle position sensor causing all that. Does anyone else have any ideas or is that what it is? I hate to spend 60.00 on something I cant return if thats not it.

And another problem I'm having is if I am idleing all my lights are very dim but if I give it gas everything brightens up. My volt meter goes from 9Volts to 13 or so. It really drops at idle if I have the heater on. I replaced the altenator and still doing it. Anyone have a clue what this might be?

Your dimming lights are probally due to underdrive pullies. What 303 cam do you have b,e,f,x,z ? Your fluctuating idle is more than likely some minor tuning issues I would imagine. Have you checked for vac leaks? You can always reset your base idle again and see what happens.

for me I had to reinstall the factory ALT. pulley. The under drive pulley caused the dimming and poor idle for me.

unless you have had your mass air meter recalibrated to 24# injectors the car is going to be on the rich side especially in colder weather like any engine is supposed to. the idle will be affected by this due to being rich. also if you do have underdrive pullies the idle also will be affected. the tps and the iac depend on a constant 5v reference from the computer. if the alternator cant keep the battery voltage up the 5v wont be accurate to these sensors and therefor the idle will be screwed up.
