thoughts on dumps

well ive searched through the forum and found nothing that answers my question.

i have stock manifolds, upr off road x, stock catback with flowmasters (unkonwn series) welded in. im not totally crazy about the sound of it. being i have the stock catback pipe and tip combo im guessing thats killin my sound a bit. i was thinking of cuttin the tail pipes off and dumpin the flows. im hesitant to do that because when i used to have a v8 dakota pickup with stock exhaust with a super 40 welded in and i dumped it, it droned like u wouldnt believe at around 55 mph. i thought maybe being geared like it was and being an auto that the rpm range was just right to rattle ur teeth out. if i do this will i have the same problem again? or will the x make the difference as far as deep droning go.....

probably 6 months from now..maybe sooner ill get a catback....bassani most likely. would it be a big mistake to dump them till then?

my buddies have flows that are dumped on their mustangs and yes the drone is bad. any exhaust that is dumped at the muffler will drone bad since the exhaust note is not carried out from underneath the car.

It'll drone but get alot louder. The best way to wake up your exhaust is with an aftermarket h or x pipe... makes a big difference (as much as the mufflers do).

I customized mine, and personally I love the way it sounds. I left the stock h-pipe and removed the mufflers and pipes. I took two 3 1/2 ft. pieces of 3 in. stainless steel pipe and made some bellow pipes for it, dropping them right before the axle and angled at a 45 to the ground. Its got some drone to it but not bad. I can still hear myself think running down the highway. It get lots of looks when i take it out.

3inch flows don't make the drone noise as bad...... also with dumps your car will never stay clean. I have them on my fox because i can't fit tailpipes over the rear and i can't stand it. love the noise but the car stays filthy.

Dumps will increase interior noise and do nothing for performance.

Personally, I love taking dumps. No better feeling than dropping the kids off at the pool. All joking aside, i really enjoy the sound. I dont mind the drone, or the smell. I wouldnt go with a SLP or Magnapack dumped, but flows are good.

you could put in some electric cutouts and dumps, then you could close the if you wanted less racket for time to time. I have one on my syclone and it makes a world of diff in sound esp with a turbo, but wide open all the time is almost too much.

just my $.02
