Has anyone installed a set of exhaust cut outs on a 2005-07 GT? I have looked at the electronic controlled ones, the cable controlled ones and the regulars ones which have bolted caps on them. I will most likely get the bolt on caps as they are only 45-50 dollars and they simply clamp on. My questions are where to place the cut outs, before the H pipe, more near the rear of the car or in the middle just past the H pipe? Also, will this call for a re tune? My car is tuned right now for a Saleen exhaust system with 21/2 inch pipes. I will most likely use them for racing only.

JC Whitney had cable operated ones; I'd rather do that than bolt on caps.

I think you want to put them after your cat and before your muffler. You don't want to destroy your back pressure or you'll cripple your performance.

I have the exhaust cut-outs or dumps as they are now called from Summit Racing. I will let you know how they sound and whether they require a re-tune. I plan on installing them near the back where the exhaust turns up to go over the axle. Hopefully that will still allow some back pressure. This set up should be real loud, but it is so easy to cap them up and go out the regular exhaust. I would have like to have the electronic type, but they are very expensive.

Why would you mount them that far back? Or behind the muffler at all?

They will be in front of the mufflers. My car has the Saleen exhaust whcih are tucked way back behind the rear. I thought I would position them farther back from the cats to cut down on inside noise and maybe create a little back pressure. But who knows maybe when they arrive, I may put them right after the cats.

Ah, alright. I think if you still have the cats, you'll get a bit of back pressure from those. You could probably call a muffler shop that deals with aftermarket stuff (some places don't like that) and see what they say about getting enough back pressure.

You won't need a retune though.

I put the exhausts dumps on today. I ordered them from Jegs. They were about 100 dollars with the clamps. They were very easy to install and clearance was no problem. I installed them right behind the H pipe. They have caps for normal exhaust use. These cutouts or dumps are very loud under acceleration, but only sort of rumble when idling or when running smooth. I have not capped them up yet. It sure is fun to hear that little motor rev under acceleration. This might be a good solution for some of the guys on here looking for the loudest exhausts.

You can see them at jegs.com. They are very simple. You cut out about a 10 inch section of your tailpipe. The dump slides over the 2 ends of the pipe and you just clamp it on both sides or weld it if you like. The dump has a cut out that comes off of it. It has a flange with holes so you can plug the dump up and go normal exhaust. The dumps also come with the covers that close off the cut out. These devices also come in electric and cable operated if you do not like climbing under the car to uncap them, but they are very expensive. I really like the sound.

That doesn't effect back pressure?

It feels like it makes the car run better, I think the cats and the length to the H pipe creates back pressure. By the way, I am capping them up for awhile. I drove into town today and a policeman came up behind. It is impossible to keep them quiet when accelerating. He did not pursue, but I feathered it as much as I could. When you get to around 3 thousand rpms it really roars. I will only uncap them for drag racing.
