02 sensors

my 90 stang with 5.0 has no 02 sensors, well at least not anymore.

When I bought the car, the exhaust was gone, only the headers remained, and they are shot. I plan on buying headers, and then letting a shop do the exhaust work. I hear that I need a 02 sensor with FI?

If so, where does it go, and where is it connected. I do see one connector on the drivers side of the oil pan that does not have a mate. It is located right beside some kind of sensor in the oil pan.

Thanks,

Robert

You should have a harness for the sensors to plug into coming off near the firewall. the sensors themselves have a harness that plugs into the wiring harness for the car, then the sensors screw into the bungs on the headers

sensors, as in more than one?

Sensors, as in more than one?

If there are 2, do they plug into the same place on the wiring harness?

Do both sensors screw into the headers?
One on each side?

One on each side plugs into the collector pipe of the headers for long tubes to measure a/f ratio. There is a separate connector for each side that goes into the wiring harness.

Screw an oxygen sensor into one collector pipe. Then plug the wire attached to the sensor to the wiring harness near the firewall.

the 02 sensors would go into the bungs on the mid pipe you get if you stick with the shorty headers and full size mid pipe.

OK, I think I got it now :-)

I see a 4 prong female connentor beside the starter, and one on the other side of the engine beside the sensor that is in the oil pan. I am hoping that is where the O2 sensors plug. I am also hoping that if I buy the sensors they come with the harness, It is my understanding if I ue long tube headers I may have to extend the wires, but at least I will know which wires go where in the connector.

Does that sound right??????????

Oxygen sensors come with a harness attached that is long enough for shorty headers. For long tube applications, an oxygen sensor extender harness is needed.

I was just going to do a cut and splice

I was just going to do a cut and splice, unless the harness is easyily available and cheap..............
