random exhaust+turbo questionlike with a single turbo, ive seen people just have one 3 inch exhaust pipe. would splitting that with a Y adapter work? i probably sound pretty misinformed but i was just curious... |

You mean just splitting the stock Y pipe into dual exhaust using an aftermarket setup at the midpipe?
Did you want dual exhaust? Did you want exhaust with no cats like straight off of the headers? aka Straight pipes? |

no need for mufflers on a turbo car. the turbo acts as a muffler

that would be one loud whirring muffler that would only take peoples attention off the insane strait piped sound, and for the best turbo exaust you would want to increase the diameter of as much of the exaust system as possible, especially the down pipe imediately after the turbo.(gasses hottest here and need to be expanded) The whole idea is getting rid of as much back preasure as possible. The stock SAAB 900 (2L engine) comes equiped with an exaust from the turbo consisting of a 1.5" to 2.5" elbo pipe to a 2.5" down pipe to a relitively high flow cat to a 2.5" pipe and decent muffler and to 2.5" to the tip. by throwing out this set up, which by many peoples standards is a great set up, and replacing it with 3" everthing, no cat, 3" elbo pipe, and turbo muffler many people have experienced spool up 400 rpm earlier and a gain of 25 true hp.
in other words a cat back system is not enough and is the least important part of turbo exaust, you would be making a custom exaust with no cat(pray to god you have no emissions) and a new down pipe plus a custom fitted "cat" back exaust system, unless you opt not to lower your car and use side dumps.

then just use the best cats u can find and put them at the end of your down pipes. Although your spool up wont be as good, as long as the rest of your exhaust is free flowing(especially right after turbo) it should still work well enough
