Those who have smog/emissions

Ok so ive asked around and looked for a thread, but nothing to help me. So im askin you all, originally im from IL, now living in cali, cars registered in IL, so i have to do my emissions, so i go to the shops in cali and i get it done. So what i want to know, is in california or any other state that has emissions, is there any possible way i can get headers, that arent shorties, and still pass emissions. For instance, l/t headers, with hi flow cats to my x pipe. Will that pass and for visual as well? I want to finish my exhaust up, but if i cant pass, then theres no sense in putting any headers on correct? Help me, im soooo confused, damn emissions

Take them off when you go to get tested. Then put them back on after.

Speaking from experience, they are. I believe if you get the vehicle tuned it can resolve most of your issues. My LTs don't throw a CEL for the rear o2s, just for the heaters for the front and I believe a tune can fix that (don't quote me) my advice would be see if anyone is running LTs that doesn't have any problems with it and what they did. You being in CA means that they're strict and I don't know what the ruling is for vehicles that have one or more systems come up as not ready.

It's not like you get tested every day. It's like once every three years.

It's once every 2 years for vehicles made after 1975, unless the vehicle is registered in a smog-on-transfer-of-title-only county, in which case it must be smogged within 90 days of the title transfer (before or after doesn't matter, the title transfer and smog must be within 90 days of each other). From what I understand, there's a recent change that exempts new vehicles for their first 5 or 6 years.

And it doesn't matter whether or not it'll pass the sniffer, in California failing the visual is just as bad (if not worse, honestly), and to the best of my knowledge there are no long tube headers with a CARB exemption. I don't beleive that you can get a CARB exemption for long tubes because they move the location of the O2 sensor.

JBA is the only street legal header available in the aftermarket and it is high quality stuff, kind of expensive though..As for the X Pipe, I'm not sure that Bassanis are street legal, I know Magnaflow is and they also make one where you just cut out the H in your old h pipe and clamp in an X which is also street legal since the cats don't move.

the bassanis i found arent street legal, they are only meant for track use, but i might end up gettin the jba and end up getting it custom fitted to my bassani x, and then throwing sum cats on it, not sure tho yet

Well i live in illinois and i have Flowmaster 40's catback, Off Road H pipe(noCats), and Mac Longtube headers and i got my emissions done a few days ago and i passed just make sure you get MIL eliminators for the rear 2 sensors so the computer thinks the cats are still functioning. They just hook it up to your obd theres no visual at least where i live.
