Actually I didn't even know I was bumping it, as it was still high up on the front page. So actually it wasn't even bumped.. But hey no biggy.
I was just pointing out had I started a new thread like I was planning on, I would have been told I should have done a search because it was talked about before, instead of making a new thread. This confuses people. :/ I think the rule is a bit inane actually. But hey, it's not my forum. What harm does bumping posts do?

OK weems, there is no need to get all Chris T on me with the silly insults. :/
Anyhow, I am just pointing out that there seems to be some confusion with the "damned if you do, damned if you don't" That and I've seen a lot of people bumping things because they've also been told not to bring up older subjects that already have posts. I fully accept my "warning" for what happened. No biggy.

When people are encouraged to use the "Search" function, its not so they can go and find a 10 month old thread and bump it, its because the question has likely been answered somewhere on the forum. It's not our fault that some people are confused about that. If you go and find a old ass thread, and bump it with something that has no input on the matter at hand, and does not help the OP, then chances are likely that you will be warned. Generally, we do not give infractions for bumping threads unless it is way old, and the bump is something so stupid that it deserves an infraction. |

ok now that i have the time....let me try to explain this so you will understand.
i went into that thread after i saw that there were new posts...now i knew this thread had been around for a while because i remember when it was first created so i checked the date on the post before yours ...........May 5th, 2008, 08:15 AM then i see ur post date... June 17th, 2009, 08:54 AM which consisted of this: please explain to me how this post is of any use to anyone? being that this thread is old there was absolutely no need for your useless post in that old thread. now if ur post had been asking a question pertaining to the topic or provided some useful info with reason to bring the old thread to the top then you wouldnt have had anyone say anything. now here is the rule on this topic 14. Needlessly bumping old threads (a thread more than a couple pages back) without good reason will result in an infraction at moderator’s discretion. now if you see that end part about moderators discretion, this part gives us the decision on whether or not anything will or should be said. i gave the warning (let me emphasize WARNING) because i was just letting you know that what you were doing was not needed and you shouldnt bump old threads without a decent reason. warning do not affect you in points nor do they restrict you from anything. their purpose is to warn you that you are doing something you shouldnt be doing and if you continue doing it, it will result in an infraction. i dont know how you cant understand it, but if you have any more questions or comments then let me know

Ok, before I post this I just want to make it clear, I am not complaining about the warning. As far as I am concerned it was legit. I am not trying to get it removed. Ok?
I didn't make this really to argue about my infraction. Seriously. I did it because a lot of other people seem to be having the same problem. I was just offering a way to get rid of both problems. That is what the thread was about. Not my infraction. Regardless as to "whos fault it is" it happens regularly. Why this turned into a heated discussion for some people is beyond me. :/ If you guys don't like my idea, cool. No biggy. We can move on. I don't wish to get my infraction removed.

I think both sides are a little...touchy here. Kev, the rule is in place to stop needless bumping of old threads. Especially in the tech forums. What you bumped may or may not be a gray area...it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, you just got a warning. They expire. I had my share of warnings here at this forum before I became a moderator, from the creator of the place no less. I never felt the need to post about them.
Now, you may be saying you're not ticked off, and you're just offering a suggestion, but let's be completely honest here: It bugged you at least enough to have to think about coming up with an idea. If it didn't upset you at all you wouldn't have bothered thinking of an idea. You may think that the guys here are overreacting somewhat, and perhaps they are a bit, but bear in mind we get stuff like this all the time, particularly in pm's, over what should be a non-issue. However if I'm way off base here, and you truly just had a suggestion on this, here are my thoughts on that. We don't want to create even more rules over something so small. We don't want old threads locked in case somewhere down the road people have something legitimate to add. We have a pretty large forum to take care of, and a lot goes on here, and we do it with a pretty small group of guys here. The amount of time that we would have to put into each particular 'legit bump - illegitimate bump' could be mind boggling....especially when you consider not every person who disagrees with this particular rule is as rational as you are in discussing things. And then we would be arguing gray areas anyway... It's a pretty easy rule. If you have something legitimate to add to an existing thread, do it. If you don't, don't. Are there gray areas? Sure. Always will be. That's why warnings and infractions expire. The sole purpose of the warning is to say to a member "Hey, we have a rule about this, so just watch for this in the future please." Not a big deal.

Oh I know the rule is. I wasn't sure about the posting in bumped threads. And it seems others are having problems with it as I just posted in 2 this morning that someone had bumped because they didn't want to make a new topic.
For example: Exhaust Flame? This thread was started simply because there seemed to be some confusion, and I figured this would help out. If I knew how it would have turned out, I would have never posted it. As far as being touchy? Naw, It's not that big of a deal. At least to me. I just thought maybe offering an alternative so people wont complain about bumped threads.
This will probably be my last post in this thread. I don't want to get anyone else uptight because of such in inane matter. Not so sure why anyone got upset in the first place. If any of my posts read as being hostile, or negative to you, I apologize as that isn't/wasn't my intentions. Body language and voice tone cannot be seen/heard on the net. So we project what we BELIEVE to be the mood. Anyone that knows me IRL knows I have pretty thick skin, and rarely get upset. When I was like 20-21 I got angry sometimes... but that is just being young. ... whenever I see someone around that age being rude, I usually just ignore it and chalk it up to immaturity. Cheers.

Honestly man, its not that difficult of a point. If you have a legit reason to bump a thread, then bump it, if its not clear to you, then save yourself the trouble and make a new thread.

But he still didnt break any rules to permit getting a even a meaningless warning. . . . . . i mean if thats the case just make a 3 week rule and do away with the ''couple of pages'' that my friend is truly a silly rule to begin with
