Thread age suggestion.

I just got a "warning" for "spamming" by bumping an old thread unintentionally (it was old, but the section doesn't get many hits so it was near the top)

Instead of giving people infractions or whatever for doing this, why not have it so threads of a certain age get automatically locked? I know a Mac forum I was in at one time did this. As most cases, such things aren't done on purpose, but on accident. Especially if you are new here. This way the problem gets solved, and no one gets "warned" for something they weren't purposely doing.

BTW, not complaining about the "warning".. just offering a better solution.

That and using "spam" to describe such indiscretions is incorrect IMHO

the thread was old and they gave you a warning. I've gotten it before, no big deal though. Btw it doesn't matter if it is less that 4pgs back or not. It's just the fact that it was old. The pg thing only applies if you are quoting or commenting on something that is posted on previous pages. Unless of course it's still the original post. I could be wrong tho. No one cares tho if they get a warning. Atleast they don't ban you for it. Lol I would've been gone a long time ago
Moral: always check the time stamp before posting. Then if its old, PM the person you are responding to, or start a new thread.

Oh, I am not complaining about the warning. I was just trying to make a comment about how there is a better way to do things. I couldn't give to monkey fists about the warning.

I know your not complaining, just offering an easy temp. fix since it could be a while until they get around to looking over the old rules.

No, because sometimes someone will legitimately bump an old thread instead of creating a new one. Which in turn, would not be an infraction or warning.

THAT type of warning. I was warned once in a thread for bumping one that had something in it that I was wanting to ask about etc. No biggy really. I'm not complaining.

when you bump an old thread, if you post information or a question relevant to the original topic of the thread, you aren't doing anything wrong. rags, if you updated your thread, that shouldn't be an infraction or warning. i'm not a moderator, so don't take my word as the final word, as who gets infractions for what is up to the mods/admin in the end, but according to the rules, you wouldn't get in trouble for that. if people got in trouble for bumping old threads to add information or ask a question pertaining to the original post, then you'd never see people say "use the search function"

Not legit? I posted at it actually because I was about to buy a shorty and saw the thread on the front page of the forum it was in and made a comment. I mean I GUESS I could have started a new thread, but then I'd be flamed for doing so since one already existed on the first page. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. *shrug*

For one, it was a damn warning, no infractions, no points, a warning, and no it wasn't me who gave it to him. And once again, if the bump is LEGIT, then nothing will happen.
