2011 5.0 section
Um, mods? The new 5.0 isn't a mod motor. Can you change title of that section?
Thanks, Captain Technicality

Reference? Everything I've seen says that it is NOT a mod motor.

"With time running short, Ford regrouped at the familiar modular engine family with plans for an all-new modular development specifically for the Mustang."
Wilson, Tom. 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords magazine, "Coyote Beautiful." p. 62. March 2010. It's not the same family of modular engines used from the early 90s to the present, but an evolution of the old family. However, it still uses the 100mm (3.937-inch) bore spacing as the original family of modulars, allowing the same boring machine to be used, keeping cost low. |

I still stand by my statement. Everything about the motor except for the bore spacing is a clean-sheet design, and the bore spacing was only kept so that they could re-use some of their manufacturing equipment. If Ford is now calling the Coyote a "modular", I can only assume that's because people have come to believe that modular means OHC, and it's their way of keeping people from thinking they just brought back a pushrod motor. Modular is in reference to the factory design, not the engine design, and these new motors are being built in a different plant (Essex) than the Romeo/Windsor modular plants.

So even though Ford calls it a modular (despite its obvious differences from the original family of modulars), you don't consider it so?
Sounds like a matter of opinion in the end. Fair enough, Rev. |

Not really. If Ford calls it a mod motor, then it's a mod motor, there's no opinion about it.
