Post a template in the ad, lock the thread and explain if they don't follow the rules it will be deleted in 24 hrs. Cody and I could split up the classifieds and each take a few sections.

Or we could even just be added to the current mods to make for very light work

No matter what we did, people didn't listen. It worked for one person, but not for another person.

Cody and I have both volunteered to do it. Each time a thread is deleted, the member will get a pm from me or Cody. You guys wouldn't have to deal with any of it. If for some reason someone messaged any other mods, forward it to us. I don't care if people cry at me for deleting their crappy fs threads. I know you guys don't owe members anything when it comes to the classifieds, but the apathy here is astounding. Especially after all the time spent reorganizing the classifieds, you guys are willing to let to let it go down the tubes?

The problem is NOT the lack of moderators. The issue is that people will not follow the rules no matter what you do. So it has been decided that users can use the classifieds and handle transactions on their own. It's not that difficult to understand and not hard to do...If you decide to buy something from someone just shoot them a PM and ask for some details. Very simple. If you don't like what they provide, then don't buy from them. This is just the way it is.

As Woody said, we have done all that. You really have no idea how much time we've spent on this. You seem to forget that we all sit down here to do this for free. You have no idea how much time mods would have to spend in the classifieds. I can show you hundreds and hundreds of pages of threads we dumped when we tried to do JUST what you're suggesting. It's impossible to keep up with... unless you're telling me that you are going to spend every minute you're on MM doing NOTHING but go through the classifieds. Because that's what it takes. I'm not exaggerating. I'm not disagreeing with you for the sake of disagreeing. I'm not disagreeing with you because we fear change here. At some point though, sometimes, you guys have got to trust that we're telling you something with good reason, and that we're not just arbitrarily being combative or not listening. See, you guys say "Just add mods" like it's nothing. What you don't understand is every time we do that, it's more workload for us, it takes more to get something done because with a larger group of people you have a lot more different opinions on some things. We don't add moderators here just like that just to perform a specific task. And frankly, after all the time and work we put into this place, to read from members things like 'Apathy', and 'Letting the place go down the tubes'... wow, man. The apathy here is "Astounding". Really? Very insulting. And now you guys think we would make you a moderator with that attitude? Let me tell you something brother, just because you guys may disagree with something doesn't mean it's because we're sitting here with our thumbs up our ass doing nothing. You obviously have NO idea how much time we all put in to running this forum, or you wouldn't say such things. |

All we were trying to do was offer a solution to something we see as a problem. |

And how funny that after telling us were apathetic, brushing you off, when I point out to you that is a shitty thing to say to us, you are bound and determined to still make it look like we're being dicks here. ========= On The Pod |

1. We had rules 2. People didn't follow them 3. We were tired of trying Sorry for wanting a little bit more in depth of an answer. As far as being bound and determined to make anyone look like dicks, I just don't appreciate being chastised and told that MY behavior/attitude is poor, when I've been nothing but respectful in this thread. Like I said in my last post, all I was doing was trying to get a solution or answer to something that I perceive to be a problem with this site. |

You asked questions. I, and others, answered them. And you got WAY more involved answers than how you depicted them. What would you have us do, go back through the umpteen different threads we've had over the years regarding how to best run the classifieds, and give you all those details in an attempt to prove to you that we're not brushing you off? Why can't you just trust what we say sometimes? Have I, and others here, shown you that we're not stand up, honest guys? Honestly. It ain't me reading to much into it, brother, it's you. The words "You, AnotherS197 GT, are attacking us.", never left my fingers. Your reply eventually was to consider us apathetic. I told you that I thought writing that shows a bad attitude. It doesn't mean I think you're an asshole. I just mean that tossing around terms like "You guys are apathetic about this" when you're not getting the answer you want isn't going to exactly make us want to make you a moderator. Not because we're spiteful. But because when we're looking to promote people, we're looking for people who have a way of arguing without resorting to tossing out terms like that. Again, it's ironic that you don't like being 'chastised' for something, but you can call us apathetic and tell us we're letting something die, when you've no idea what's went on behind the scenes and how much work we have put in over the years, and continue to put, into this entire forum. Stop getting off track and reading things into my posts that don't exist. You asked answers, we gave them to you. You didn't like the answers, but that doesn't mean our answers aren't valid. You haven't been the one sitting here hour after hour, day in, day out, doing this for free, trying to keep this a great place. This also doesn't mean you can't ever suggest things- we listen to suggestions from members all the time. But if we're telling you that something can't be done for a reason, and your response is to tell us the apathy here is astounding, yeah, I'm going to tell you that is insulting to me. And yeah, it gets frustrating when we do listen to members and implement an idea, but when we don't, inevitably people get pissed off at us or think we're apathetic about things. Ditto for someone telling me I'm taking something too much to heart after they're the one who threw around the insulting talk. I'm not. I have the ability to tell you that I think something you said is wrong/insulting/off base/whatever and not have lost my cool. Just because we disagree about something doesn't mean I'm sitting here freaking out over it. |

I dont mean to step on toes here or bring back a dead thread, but i didnt realize this thread existed until now.
I dont like how the rules just went away either. pictures are nice and they help sell things, however basic info about the item like the location/email/name/price are pretty important and a lot of threads dont even have that. shouldnt their be some kind of structure to it? tell people "Hey if we see it we will delete it so dont get pissed when its gone if you cant give some info on it." I understand that there is a lot to do to run this site but a lot of people join forums for the classifieds because they can pick up really great deals. I dont think a guideline for posting is a bad idea.

As we've covered in here, we have tried it every way, jb. You have no idea how much time we would spend on here trying to get people to follow any guidelines. It is impossible for us to moderate to even close to perfection. You could, some days, literally sit here and spend almost every minute combing through the classifieds trying to implore people to edit their threads to follow the guidelines. Then, upon realizing you're sitting here waiting for someone to edit a thread and put in the required information, and realizing that you have 50 of these things to keep track of... you begin dumping them. Now, suddenly, people pop out of the woodwork, and beyond any of the work going on that you guys can see out in the forum, now we have a bunch of arguments going on behind the scenes with people yelling at us and berating us for dumping their classifieds thread.
This is the bottom line: As with any online website utilized for purchasing, whether it is a forum, craigslist, autotrader, kijiji, etc... no matter WHAT guidelines are present or not, it is caveat emptor. If you cover your ass and take the right steps, only the buyer can truly protect himself. I promise you, this ain't us blowing it off. We've been there, tried that, repeatedly banged our heads off the wall over it... and MM simply cannot be the police of the classifieds. |
