A way to help Moddedmustangs.com SEO With Thread URL

As you see the urls on moddedmustangs are not relivant to it's content. The site Links are random letters and numbers as you go through threads.

index.php?q=aHR0cDovL3d3dy5tb2RkZWRtdXN0YW5ncy5jb2 0vZm9ydW1zL3Bvc3RpbmcucGhwP21vZGU9bmV3dG9waWMmYW1w O2Y9NA%3D%3D

In vbulletin you can add a vbseo that changes your url to the actuall thread titles. For example this thread could be index.php?/Moddedforums/feedback/newtopic. That url has keywords in it that go with the site. Having that will greatly increase the amount of key words that search engines pick up. Doing this to the site will greatly increase the sites numbers for people finding the site on Search engines.

--------
(Not intending on advertsiing, espically since it is a gaming forum)
This is a new site I made, It was not doing very well and after I add'd that to the site my unique visits from Google, and yahoo search increases 32%!

My site had the urls like
http://bygforum.com/showthread.php?p=49345#post49345

Now with the update it reads like this *Screenshot below

The URL has words in it from the differnt forums I go through, for exaple the url has the words halo, halo 3 videos, contest, 150 in it. Happening keywords like that in the url instead of just showthread//73508hih random things it will deffiantly help. With that happening it increases my keywords and number of words that are on the internet helping with search engine optimization greatly!

For a site of this magnitude everythread made here with mustang and part keywords would blow this site up!

*If the admin or programmer contacts me I could probably talk to you about what software your running and maybe help find a modification for this site or maybe even code it. No charge just looking to build my rep here and have fun.

The URL's haven't always been like this. It was showthread//random numbers and letters here.

Now it uses the keywords, Google still works with the showthread but with keywords it helps it a lot more.

We've always rewritten url's, only that at certain times (like right after logging in) you'd get a session ID appended to it. Try a site:moddedmustangs.com/forums search on Google and you'll see (might want to hurry as the new url's have been getting indexed). Check the cache to see if it was the old forum or new. You'll notice url's like:

Code:

www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/5-0-mustangs/
www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/california-vt43966.html
www.moddedmustangs.com/forums/gears-vt2525.html
etc.

I do appreciate the suggestion though.

Since we're helping each other Steam, I'll take a look at yours. We'll use this page as an example. Let's call this "A way to help xtremecarforum.com SEO"

In the breadcrumb navigation at the top, wrap the thread title (Turbocharging Basics) in H1 tags. I'd also suggest wrapping the same repeat of the title just below your username in the first post (next to the icon1.gif) in H2 tags.

I'd remove the showpost links and offer only the permalink, showpost pages never rank well and dilute your thread's ability to pass pagerank to more important pages.

I'd remove the next / previous links at the bottom as those aren't necessarily related topics and the anchor text doesn't help anyways. Even if you started using the thread titles down there it's gonna add 2 database queries and it's not worth it. Instead, I'd suggest using vBullitin's built in "Similar Threads". I'd suggest throwing the page title in down there again too for good measure.

The page title in your source is not optimized well either. In almost all cases displaying just the actual thread title is idea. Your's reads "Turbocharging Basics - Extreme Car Forum :: Enthusiast In Training" - instead this should just read "Turbocharging Basics", as you don't want that page to rank for extreme car forum or enthusiast in training do you? Besides, repeating those keyterms on so many pages is likely to kick alot of them into supplemental indexes.

I'd ditch the forum description on showthread also, repeating that on all those pages in such a prominent place (in bold no less) is really killing your keyword focus and diluting alot of your individual pages value (along with the page title).

Ditch the posting rules and currently active users viewing this thread for guests. Just wrap a simple if statement around those. They kill your keyword focus and guests don't really need to know that information.

Ditch the sitewide footer links, they hurt you (almost always, unless it's an extremely related site and even then they don't help). Use a link exchange page instead if you insist on exchanging links. If you're selling or exchanging them, place them in-content instead so you don't get tagged by the search engine police. I'd suggest staying away from selling links though, but if you insist (especially in the footer area or labeling them "sponsored links" then tag them with a rel="nofollow")

The archive... well that's debatable. You're using it for a sitemap so that's not so bad but I believe firmly that if you're pages are crawlable and the on page SEO is good then you don't need a physical sitemap, especially when using the similar threads feature. It's not something I think matters much as long as you're using it the way you are, but it's just my preference. I'd change the name to "Site Map" though, as that's what it actually is.

I'd move your CSS into an external file, it'll not only save bandwidth and server resources but also reduce your html files which could very well mean faster indexing and more pages. Also, it's speculated that the higher up your content is in your source code the more weight is placed on it. That CSS is taking up alot of premium real estate if that's the case, besides there's no reason not to move it.

I love you, I'll try and do most of those things.

And heres the thing for youtube & google embedded for you Embedded Youtube & Google videos into the threads? its the easiest install. But you might want to get the myspace embedded and all those but you can find those on vb.org pretty easy.

Yes, though modding phpBB is quite involved, there's no plugins like with vBulletin. Take a look at phpbbhacks.com and phpbb.com
