Hushpower customer install

Flowmaster customer John did a great post about installing the Hushpower Axle-Back on his 2011 Mustang and we wanted to share it with all of you.

Here's the install in John's own words:

"Hey folks, I was excited about my first mod so I thought I would share with you guys & gals:

I ordered my FLO-819109 Axle Back from Late Model Restoration Tuesday around lunch.

Today (Wednesday), I was happy to find them delivered around 3:00PM. After a quick bite to eat it was time to round up the tools and install these babies. With the help of my darling wife, installation took about 30 minutes and was a snap. It was just nice to have an extra set of hands to help jiggle the mufflers from the hangers. Once the pipes are disconnected they rest on top of the flange and need to be pushed out of the way while the mufflers are pushed forward to remove them from the front hangers. The left side seem to come off easy but the right was a bit more of a pain since there is slightly less room with the Panhard rod not completely dropped out of the way as on the left side.

As per the included instructions, this kit re-uses the stock clamps which needed to be removed from a tack weld strip to keep it in place. This was easily removed with some back and forth bending. Then I got my Kliens to break off the remaining tab on the clamp much closer to the weld and dressed the sharp edge with a file. Fitment and alignment was a snap. The OD of the tips are 4” which is a bit larger than stock. For some reason I did not measure and already packed my OE units away but I think they are like 3 ¼” or 3 ½”. The stock hangers have “tits” on the end of the rods to help them from sliding off the rubber grommet. The Flowmasters do not and two star washers are provided for this purpose.

As far as packaging goes, the goods come well packed in a cardboard box with plenty of staples and good packing materials to keep the packed tight. In the box was a Flowmaster garage banner, a couple of stickers, instructions, warranty, tech notes, a couple of star washers and the mufflers.

I love the sound. It is definitely louder than stock during acceleration and deceleration. At idle, they are pretty tame. Low rpm cruise provides a nice rumble much more noticeable than stock. Under hard acceleration, you can tell you have Flowmasters. My cruise was with the windows down of course, and I did not hear any unwanted cabin noises, any popping or cracking. Overall, I’m please and would recommend the change. Deciding factors for me were the YouTube video LateModelRestoration did on this kit (which gives a good before and after), I liked the price. Other cat-backs seem to run a few hundred more. Those seem to come with polished housings but since I can only see the tips when installed, I figured I could save a few bucks. I’m not quite ready to drop 800 to a grand on a full exhaust yet. I have 850 miles on my car so headers and “un-kinked” pipes might come later."
