Chrome Rim cleaning

I have some 18" Chrom Saleens... and I need some ideas.

I have been cleaning them as normal; Wheel Cleaner, elbow greese, water. However, in the corners and cerveces there seems to be some build up of grime, and over time the shine is getting worse.

What would you all suggest for some good deep cleaning on these rims? Including products, techniques, ect.

I have the same problems with my saleens.

1. Never use wheel cleaner. Use a good aerosol glass cleaner.

2. Do it twice.

3. Mothers makes a small tub of wheel polish. Its a beigh (sp) tub with red lettering. Put that on there, let it dry, and rub it off.

Turtle wax makes a really good cheap chrome cleaner that acts as a rust remover and a wheel "wax".

4. Even if they act as a wax, I always finish my wheels with a coat of Next Generation car wax.

Make sure you dont get tire shine on the chrome either, that will kill em.

So, clean it twice with something like Windex Auto, Us Mother's Wheel Polish, Turtle Wax Chrome Cleaner, Wax.

What about products such as never dull, and the Mother's Powerball thing? Simply because this grime feels like it just will not come off.

I like the mothers chemical products, i dont like the power ball because i feel like i can get in tighter spots with my fingers. However, they make a powerball mini that might not be bad.

As far as which product to use, i only listed the ones i no prefer. Test out a couple and see which ones you like the most. Just dont use rubbing compounds that are gritty or have abrasive materials (duh). I just say this because some rubbing compounds have fine grit in them to polish, chrome doesnt respond to that stuff.

Use a Chrome Wheel Cleaner from Eagle One or similar since it's OTC. Spray the wheels down with water, spray the wheel with the cleaner, wait 15 seconds, and than scrub the wheel with a mitt with soap and water. Rinse well. Repeat. Don't do this all of the time. Chrome Wheel Cleaners are very acidic and can cause hazing but it's the easiest way to get them very clean. I'd recommend picking up a wheel sealant or a synthetic wax to put on them. It'll make clean up a lot easier and stop this from happening. Just wash them with soap and water more often.

Get you a cotton buffing wheel and some adam's #1 and #2, do the entire wheel with both of them, and then put a good coat of wheel wax on them. After that, you shouldn't have to worry about them for quite some time.

I found that using Turtel Wax's Chrome Polish works really well. I simply clean with Windex, then use the Polish, followed by another windex treatment.

Made them shine like new.

Edit, I just re read and realized that you had chrome, which is more than likely clear coated, do not use the buffing wheel. It will generate a lot of heat and burn right through the clear coat.
