Maguires Claybar

i took about an hour and a half after i washed my car to claybar it...finished it off w/ some Maguires Gold Class Wax....i don't have any pics uploaded yet so ill need to do that soon...but for anyone who's never claybar'd their stang...Highly worth the work and leaves the paint as smooth as glass.

First time is very hard and takes a long time. After that, do it about every 2 weeks or so (depending on how often your car leaves the garage). It becomes very easy to mantain that perfect finish.

For a smoother finish, polish, glaze, and wax it.

Huh?

Claybarring is only needed roughly every 4-6 months IF THAT. It all depends on how hard the elements are on your car and where you live.

Waxing should be roughly ever 4-6 weeks, but again depends on how bad the weather and heat is in your area. When you're car starts lose the water beading action it's time to rewax.

You can preserve the wax a tad bit longer by using a quick detailer after washes.

i would only clay a white car, possibly a silver or gold. reason being is if you rub your car out about once a year if that, and polish it every month or 2, and wax it every other week, you will have no crap built up on your paint.

clay is great for removing rail dust on white cars. but rubbing gets it all done so much faster and has the same results, smooth wet looking paint(after you polished and waxed it to seal the effects)

How can you say clay is only good for White, Sliver, and Gold cars? Clay removes impurites from the CLEAR coat of the car. No color associated with a clear coat therefore it does not matter what color your car is. It could be poke-a-dotted from every color of the rainbow and still a clay bar would work just as good because it works on the clear coat.

This is not good advice. You should clay your car before you try to do any kind of polishing. Regardless of color.

+1 Polishing without a clay bar means you would make even more swirls by losening the contaminates out of the clear coat and buffing them around on top of the clear.

Exactly. You'd just be 'polishing' the dirt and other small imperfections into the clear coat causing more swirls than you started out with.

a wool pad and rubbing compound will get anything off of the paint, in my experiance. and clay bars like i said are great for getting rail dust off light colored cars were it shows up. claying is fine to do, im just saying what i would do. i prefer to wheel impurities away, then polish and wax over claying.

however like near the wheel wells i would clay the tar off after i washed the car(so not to waste my clay bar) on any car, but not the whole car unless there was paint, tar, or some other substance similiar to these.

There is always impurities on your car rather you can see them or not. Grab a ziploc bag and rub your car and you can feel them. You should ALWAYS, let me repeat that ALWAYS clay your car before you take any kind of machine to it with ANY type of pad.

Loss of water beading action would only indicate it is time to rewax if your wax of choices even makes water bead. Some make water sheet instead. Water beading has nothing to do with quality of wax either (just a lil info for the newbs)

to Dannyboy: I prefer Maguires claybar because it is the only one ive used...but from other people i know they also prefer Maguires...

Something about feeling the paint and my hand glides across w/o feeling bumps....
