permanent water spots?

i was away at college last couple semesters, and id have to park my car several blocks from the campus. i couldnt just put a car cover on because, 1. i have to display my parking permit, 2. im afraid someone would steal it. so reuniting with it about after first 3 weeks of first semester, i found out that i parked right next to a water sprinkler. so in the mix of being sprayed with water daily, being in a dusty environment, and high 90s to 100+ degrees of sun. my car was a mess. i had to take it home that weekend to wash it all day. left to find numerous water spots all over the hood from that sprinkler. i took it to a professional car wash and had them try to get it out. after paying about 70 bucks, they told me they got "most" of it out. there are some still visible on the paint, and they say they just couldnt do it on the stripes, fearing itll get damaged.

long story short. i never parked there again for the remainder of the year. got 10+ tickets for parking it on campus right next to my dorm... well worth the price.

sorry for the long story. now i have time in the summer, does anyone might have a solution to this?

PS im afraid to wax it myself, fearing that i could have swirls in the paint because i have to park outside in the blazing sun...

Same thing happened to grandmother's 300c black. Tried clay bars, expensive waxes, and etc...Our body shop guy that works on our work fleet said that acid or lime from the hard water was the culprit and being cooked in the sun day after day was able to penetrate the clear coat. Long story short the paint had to be polished and then re-sealed. Come out better than showroom.

Good luck

If you can't wax the car yourself, then you def will not be able to remove those spots. And be prepared to pay upwards of 500 or more to get them out.

You might be lucky to find someone with know-how that will be able to help you for cheaper, but its not likely. Stay away from those schmucks who tell you 100 bucks or so, because they will fuck your paint up. Anyone who knows anything about a good detail will know that your paint will require hours and hours of labor, and will not do it for cheap.

I just got finished reading a thread on SVTP about a vette that had a similar problem, and the detailer made it a point to let everyone know that the price had a comma in it.

Thos damned water spots are tough as shit dude. Weems is not playing about that price either.

I would expect them to use a compund and make a few passes with it then follow it up with less abrasive polishes. All in all you'd be looking at like a solid 20 hours of detailing if the guys takes his time and does is correctly.

Yeah he did a great job, that would be something hard for me to tackle, and I know I wouldn't touch it for less than 900 or so. But those results will never be achieved with a PC.

Water spots from a sprinkler suck. Had water spots from a sprinkler running of well water that looked horrible on a white truck. Thanks to some 3M Fine Cut and a little time got it fixed up. Sorry, not a solution for you if you afraid to wax it, but definitely find somebody that knows what they are doing and won't damage your paint.

There are products that can remove some water spots. It's a very potent chemical that needs to be used with care. However, water spotting can cause some serious water etching in your clearcoat.

If it sat in front of a sprinkler everyday for two weeks in 100+ heat, that car has clearcoat issues.

I saw that car on the autogeek.net forums. It was basically the exact same post. That Z06 was seriously fucked to hell. I couldn't believe somebody would let a car like that get to that point.

Vinegar will remove them. Dilute 2 to 1 first wet a paper towel with it and keep it wet with a spray bottle for 10 minutes or so total cost under 5 bucks if you have to buy a spray bottle and a roll of paper towels lol. 900.00 to remove water spots you guys kill me.

We know vinegar will take off fresh water spots but it will not un-do the damage that water spots and extreme heat have done in the time frame the op gave us. Not to mention his signiture leads me to believe he is riding black paint which only makes it worse.

What do you guys not understand? If the clearcoat is etched then nothing will just take it off. The clearcoat will have to be leveled.
