Detailing for the first time

So I've had my car for almost a year and have yet to put wax or anything on it. I know, stupid, awful, ya ya. I read the stickies and they've helped quite a bit. Question though, what should I do about the vinyl stripes on my car? Is it safe to claybar and wax it?

So far I just bought some meguiar's soap and NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 paste. I'm going to get some claybar tomorrow (does it matter what brand?). Also need to pick up a microfiber rag or two.

Are there any other things I should get? I don't wanna get a bunch of stuff as I'm low on cash at the moment and I don't have all weekend to do this, but if there's anything that's highly recommended let me know. Tips are also appreciated as well.

btw I'll be leaving my car outside until we get a new shed put up to make room for it in the garage, since ours blew away pretty much haha.

Sorry for the noobishness, just wanted some direct answers. Been doing a little research.

Mothers and Meguiars make a good OTC claybar kit. And yes, you can clay and wax your stripes, just be careful around the edges for getting wax underneath and pulling the stripes back.
