Orange peel

Just got a black 2010 GT and the orange peel is driving me crazy! I know the paint can look so much better. How can I get rid of it without wet sanding? I'm not really comfortable with doing that yet.

Worst case I'd take it somewhere to have it removed. How much would be reasonable to have someone remove the orange peel?

Thanks guys!

Orange peel? Never heard of that term. It's a brand new car so as long as you didn't screw up the paint the dealership should take care of it. Paint has a year warranty if I'm not mistaken

Yeah if it's a brand new car; it shouldn't be that way. Take it back and make the dealer fix it.

i doubt ford will just wet sand it for free. there' probably a warranty for a defect, but not a warranty for something every new car has. only way is to wetsand.

Sorry but all domestic cars have orange peel. Dark colors are easy to see, plain and simple. It's just a matter of the paint having to be used due to VOC regulations, the assembly line procedure, cost, etc among with the orange peel is designed to hide imperfections in body panels. It's normal. Ford is not going to do anything for you. The only thing to do would be to let a body shop wet sand it which is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Ford doesn't use a lot of clear coat to begin with so good luck finding a body shop that is interested in doing it.

+912391293913 That is 100% right.

It's not just Ford, but most cars stock don't have very thick or multiple layers of clearcoat. Most shops won't even touch orange peel unless you plan on repainting it because if they wetsand, it MOST LIKELY take too much clear away which would look good at first but in 6 months you'd have paint failure.

You're just going to have to live with it.

I didn't expect Ford to do anything about it. I know it's a fact of life with cars unless you're buying a Bentley or a Ferrari. I was just hoping some orange peel fanatic would say something like "Oh you just have to _____. It will take an hour tops." Either way it's not too bad. Not bad enough to risk screwing up the paint anyway. Thanks for the insight NastyStang.
