409 on leather before steaming?

ive been told to use 409 on leather before steam cleaning it...i have used it on my car several times and it works really good, the leather has a nice matte look and very clean...then once you apply conditioner it will shine back up some...however then i heard from other sources that you should never use 409 on your leather because its very harmful to it...

like i said it worked great but i dont want to do any harm to my car, im not sure, what do you guys use before steam cleaning leather?

supposedly it removes the clear coating over the leather but isnt that what you want to do so the conditioner is actually going into the leather..?

for the price of leatherique stuff i would just use CG leather cleaner followed by their conditioner ...it works and will really make the leather actually smell like leather...you can get a gallon of each for a few dollars LESS than what you're paying for 16oz...leatherique is good but its not worth the money...anyways im pretty sure the 'leather' in our cars is a composite/vinyl material as it has fabric on the back...in which case its REALLY not worth the money
