1970 Ford Bronco (Fresh Restoration) - Full Detail

WARNING: CRAPPY iPHONE PICTURES AHEAD. Take your time to be able to view specific details!!

I booked a pretty cool appointment this week. I'm doing a full detail on a freshly restored 1970 Bronco. The restoration finished about 4 months ago, and the Bronco has definitely been driven since! We're doing a full Paint Correction, Interior Detail, Underhood Detail, and I'm also detailing the undercarriage.

Due to the extensive nature of this job, I am doing it for 9-10 hours a day over the course of a 3 day period. The job is not complete right now and I'll post final pictures.

Yes, I am being paid very well if you are wondering.

I am on a time line however, as the owner has the Bronco entered in a car show and parade on Saturday.

I didn't think I was going to do a write up on this until I decided I was liking my results, so I don't have a ton of pictures, especially "Before's", but I'll definitely take more "before's" tomorrow while I'm working so you can see the difference.

More about the car:
1970 Ford Bronco
Original 302 - Freshly Rebuilt
C4 Transmission
All new body panels
VERY expensive and well done paint work
Custom Painted Wheels
Much much much more.

This vehicle has a 120 day old paint job that was done VERY well. Almost every body panel is new on this vehicle. I am almost certain the owner paid around $15,000 for the paint job itself.

HOWEVER.

There has been engine work done since the paint job finished, and the quarter panels surrounding the bay, including the edges of the hood were swirled to all hell due to mechanics not taking care to properly clean the areas before laying down covers to work on the motor. The swirls on the front quarter panels resembled that of a vehicle that had been used for 2 years, not one fresh out of the paint booth 120 days ago.

Therefore, the owner requested that while I'm sealing the paint to just go ahead and get the paint as close to perfect as possible. So that's what I'm doing!

Ready to get to it?

Products used:

Wash:
1,500 PSI Pressure Washer
C.G. Glossworkz Shampoo and Conditioner
Cobra Microfiber Washmitt
200 MPH Blown Air Dry

Engine Bay:
Zep Citrus 1:1
LOTS of Shop Towels
LOTS of Q-Tips
F21 Protectant (Don't judge me, it works wonders on engine bays)
Meguiar's Ultimate Polish (Painted Surfaces)
Mother's PowerMetal Aluminum Polish

Wheels:
Sonax Full Effect Wheel Cleaner
Zep Citus 2:1 Dilution
Mother's Chrome Polish
Meguiar's #21 (Painted Surfaces)
AutoGlym HD Wax (Painted Surfaces)

Paint:
Mother's Claybar Kit
M105/205
Meguiar's DA Microfiber Cutting and Finishing Pads
Porter Cable 7424XP
Menzerna Powerlock Sealant
AutoGlym HD Wax (2 coats)

Interior:
Yet to be finished

Undercarriage:
Yet to be finished

Engine Bay Before:

Engine Bay After:

After M105:

Wheels Before:

Wheels After:

Front Driver Wheel

Chrome Polished:

Looks great! I am incredibly jealous of your work space, how did you manage to hook that up? After hours at the car dealership or something?

What metal polish will you be using on the interior, exhaust and those running boards? I used some optimum metal polish on my roommates GSX-R (polished frame and exhaust) last week with good success.

Thank you! The owner of this Bronco is actually the owner of a number of dealerships in the area. So all the work I'm doing is in the delivery bay of one of their dealerships. . It's a FANTASTIC work space. Much better than what I normally get with most clients. hahaha

Funny story, is those running boards are actually chrome. He really went all out; the roll bar, running boards, bumpers, and mirrors are all true chrome.

However, for the metal I am using Optimum Metal Polish as well because it's certainly one of the better products for the money on the market.

Wow. Not gonna lie, I thought there would be more interest in this project. Hahaha. 92 views and 1 comment. Oh well.

Anyways, update time:

The paint correction is 100% complete and I would rate it a 99/100. There isn't a single swirl or clear coat based abrassion left, any imperfection is something in the paint work itself.

I'm working on the interior right now and will be working up until the Bronco leaves for the parade and car show in the morning

Alright, she's one 100% done.

I didn't have time for a ton more pictures, but I got some to show you the unfortunate state of the paint for being a fresh job. I worked straight from 10am-7am on this thing to get it done yesterday. However, I KNOW it will win something at that car show today.

Example of Marring that was on both front fenders as well as the top panels of the bed from people resting their arms, sliding stuff around, etc. I used the passenger side as an example. Unfortunately, for being a 120 day old paint job, there was quite a bit of swirling and water marring going on here.

Water Marring

Freshly Corrected - Scratch from 2nd Picture Removed

Whole Passenger Side of the Hood, 100% corrected

The Completed Hood and Fenders

FINAL PRODUCT:

Thanks guys! The owner was really, really happy too. I wish I had taken more before pictures because he had definitely taken this thing up to the mountains a few time too before he brought it to me. hahahaha

And no worries about asking. This one came to a total of $752. However, the owner is someone I know very well and is also my former boss, so I only ended up charging him $600 even.

One of the nicest Broncos I have ever seen and great work on the correction I think this is your best write up yet. I would have charged double what you charged man for that many hours and the products used. But hey if you know the guy its cool that you helped him out. Just let him know when its time to upgrade your mustang tell him to hook it up too LOL.

Thanks Danny! That means a lot coming from you bud, I appreciate it.

Yeah, my normal price on this would have been around $900-1,000. BUT I cut it down a lot for this guy since I know him well, and then I cut it again. hahaha

Reason being, is that I knew he would bring me more business if I did this one right.

And he did.

I was asked yesterday to start doing all the high end show room vehicles and used car show room vehicles for a few of their dealerships and he said that if he sets up that regular account for me, he'll only ask for 10% off my normal prices. DONE. hahahaha.

He also wrote this on my Facebook wall yesterday:
"Jeff I have been in the car business for over 20 years and you are the most talented and methodical detailer I have ever seen. Thank you for your perfection and your hard work. Job well done!"

So I think giving him like $400 off of his personal vehicle was definitely a good thing to do in the long run. hahaha

hahaha, thanks bud! And I need to do more more write-ups in general. I've picked up to about 2-3 details a week now, but I'm usually so pressed for time on a lot of them that I rarely take the time to take pictures. Like Sunday, I've got a Mazda Miata scheduled in to be sealed up, and I've only got a 4 hour time slot to Wash, Clay and Wax that sucker.
