Winter Prep sale at DI... good time to get your wax

Anyone who just got into detailing, Winter is the WORST time on a DD vehicle. If you are smart, stock up now and get your vehicle ready for the winter.

DI is having a 20% off sale on a TON of waxes/sealants, plus some freebies if you buy them. I can not stress enough how important it is to have a GOOD sealant on before winter hits... If I did not have plenty of waxes and sealants already, I would be jumping on this.

I wanted to get a super sealant for my truck this winter, but don't have the cash...

Plus, it turns out I am gonna be driving my parent's Versa for quite some time every day and leaving the truck here, so I really need to protect it more so than the truck.

Thinking 3 coats of Powerlock, and every so often using some spray wax on it.

I'm redoing my car with Powerlock followed by AGHD tomorrow. I'm excited since I've been slacking lately, so I might end up hitting it with a one step polish, if I put it under the light and some decent swirls show up.

The Mustang needs a compound on some body panels cause of some etched water spots... it was swirl free, but I had to cover it in plastic for some painting which caused some.

I REALLY need to get a PTG or barrow on from somewhere. I am worried that the clear is getting thin since I have polished it so many times.

Dude you dont need to compound it for etched water spots, try Menzerna 203S with a Green Uber pad or a LC Tangerine Hydrotech pad works wonders and since its pad dependent you can adjust the cut if needed you can use really any pad even surbufs with it and it finishes down pretty nice I am even betting that 106FA will take them out. Also try applying Powerlock the way I mentioned bro it will last you alot longer if you let it cure for an hour then remove it and then apply a second coat 12 to 24 hours later in the same manner. Oh and check out this PTG I migh pick it up I know alot of enthusiast detailers who use it since Defelskos are alot more in price. Keep in mind this like the other standard PTG's will not read fiberglass or plastic panels for that you need the Defelsko PosiTector 200 Series (Advanced) which is $2000. But hey its better to have something to read the paint by than nothing. The one most get is the Highline Meter II. Also remember the the base coat and the colorcoat by industry average make up around 50% of the paint and the other 50% is clear so when you get your measurements in mils or microns you need to take that into consideration and divide the amount by 2 and still then we wouldn't know the exact amount of each of the 3 layers (base, color, clear) so its an approximation. The only way you can get that is with the the advanced version of the Defelsko PosiTector 200 Series which you can get from Phil. But here is the Highline II

How does 203S compare to M205, since they are both in the polish area? I went over the whole car with M205 and there was still some left. Was using a Green Uber.

Large difference man M205 is really a finishing polish to remove light defects as you know where as powerfinish is a medium grade polish that will remove medium to light defects depending on the pad used and pressure applied. Its really what you need since it can be used as a one step. I say it finishes down just about the same as 205 since its a better quality polish. You can then use 85rd or 106fa to amp up the gloss but its not necessary.

Yeah I've never used M205, but Menzerna Powerfinish is a great one step polish. Its definetely the polish I use the most.

Today I washed, clayed, 1 pass with Menzerna Super Finish, then the first coat of Powerlock. Tomorrow another coat of powerlock is going on, then a coat of AGHD.

She's already looking sexy, I just don't have a good camera to capture it.

Do it man or try DoDo Juice Lime Prime or Sonax Nano Tech Paint Cleanser I have seen what both could do and have been amazed man they are also pad dependent and finish down better than 203S probably just as good as 85RD. This is really something that would suit your needs better man since your ride is already in good shape it these would just be used to freshen it up prior to a show or LSP application. I really have been wanting Lime Prime and since autogeek seen to have it on sale quite a bit I might get the large bottle and strictly use that on my vehicles and I might wait on importing Scholl Concepts S17+ but I am getting a sample sent to me to try out from a friend I will let you know how I like it I hear its amazing

So 203 should give me more cut than 205 but finish down the same? I could follow it up with 85RD to get the finish even better still...

My other concern is the clear coat still. I am kinda reluctant to use a more abrasive polish than M205 since I already feel like I need to watch my clear coat (this is pure speculation based on the number of times I have polished btw).

I can get it from AG for $37 shipped right now... wondering if I should pull the trigger. Most aggresive pad I have atm is a Uber green however...

If your concerned with the amount of clear you have I would invest in some thing like DoDo LimePrime or Sonax Nano Tech Paint Cleaner did you see the links I posted for you? And the Uber green is a great pad, I would say its the best in the Uber line. You can use it with so many different polishes and get amazing results in one step and is the preferred pad choice by pros and enthusiasts to use with Powerfinish 203S man. I would also invest in the High Line II PTG I posted the link for you as well in the other post Oh and you can also try Prima Amigo or Werkstatt Prime Strong they are are like Lime Prime and Sonax NTPC

part of be thinks I should not be worried about the clear. I mean, I have only fully compounded the car 3 times, and that was with the PC.
  1. XMT Compound - Yellow
  2. M105 - Orange
  3. Mother's Rubbing Compound - Orange

It was in that order, all with a PC. Surely that did not take away enough clear coat from the factory paint to be worried about when using 203S? I probally use M205 (which will now be 203S) maybe 3-4 times a year?

I think you be fine man just ease on the pressure when polishing man so you dont eat away at the clear so much, just use medium pressure dont go KB method on it anymore LOL And you can even use 85RD or get one of the prewax cleansers that I mentioned for a cut thats in between 203S and 85RD basically like 106FA.

A lot of times I use 85RD for a clean up before a show. Just looking for something that has a bit more cut to it for some of the water spots that 85RD and 205 won't get off.

I am probally worrying about something that is not there. I doubt I have removed so much clear with the PC that I should be concerned. As long as I don't continue to compound I think I will be good with 203 followed with 85D.

I think so too man I though you had compounded more than 3 times. I say maybe get 2 of the 5 a go and vary the cut by the pad you use since they all can be use with virtually any foam pad even the yellow. I would get 203S and Lime Prime. Or you could also get 106FA which is between 203S and 85RD a friend of mine is sell selling his on DB man and is taking offers on it.

1. Powerfinish 203S
2. DoDo Lime Prime
3. Sonax NTPC
4. Prima Amigo
5. Werkstatt Prime Stong
