Review: DI Accessories reTHICKulous Wool Wash Mitt

DI Accessories reTHICKulous Wool Wash Mitt

Image provided by Detailed Image

Description:

When you want the safest, plushest and softest washing tool on the market this is the mitt you desire. The instant you touch this mitt you'll be amazed at how sumptuous it is. Only the finest fibers are used in these mitts to deliver a superior washing medium. The all natural wool fibers are the perfect choice for a delicate cleaning that is still very thorough. The extra thick wool fibers help reduce friction during the washing process so you work carefully and effectively. While washing you'll notice every little crevice is cleaned by the long fibers removing contaminants safely and easily. It's a two sided mitt that holds a ton of shampoo suds so you can keep washing for longer. Best of all when you dunk it in your rinsing bucket it will release contaminants, which is critical so you can resume washing safely. Some lower quality mitts trap contaminants which can then make them a dangerous washing tool. This premium wash mitt is a detailers dream and we are confident you are going to love it. So if you want the best of the best purchase the reTHICKulous Wool Wash Mitt, your vehicle will thank you!

Initial Observations
My God this thing is PLUSH! I have never had such a plus and huge wash mitt. The softness is very obvious as well. The wash mitt is made of premium Lambs Wool. You can tell that this mitt with be very gental with the paint.

One negative thing I noticed was the linting. Being a plush as it is, fibers like to pull from the mitt a good bit. Later we will see if this was an issue while washing.

Conditions
I tested the wash mitt on the Mustang using Glossworkz...
  • Subject: Mustang
  • Soap: Glossworkz
  • Ratio: 1.5oz to 3 Gallons (the water here is quite rough, so this would be the equivlent to 1.5oz to 5 Gallons)
  • Foam Gun Pre-Soak: Glossworkz @ .5oz
  • No Pressure Washer

Weather:
  • Time: Evening, 5PM
  • Temp: Cool, around 60 F
  • Wind: N/A

Observations/Results
The wash mitt has some good pros and cons to look at here, so I will number them:
  1. THICK layer of soap. This wash mitt picks up a lot of soap and leaves a good coating of it on the surface. I feel that this is an amazing thing. The level of scratch protection here is tremendous and you can feel the mitt glide over the paint.
  2. The mitt weighs a ton when wet. This causes you to have to re-thick your washing a bit. You can't move the wash mitt quite as fast as a normal one. HOWEVER, I find that this makes me slower and more aware of what I am doing. I take more time gliding the mitt over the paint.
  3. Linting was not an issue at all. No lint was found on the car during or after the wash.

Conclusion

Pros: Extreamly Soft, Tons of soap application, good way to protect from scratches.
Cons: Heavy, possible maring from elastic, a little large and awkward.

Based on all these, I still love this wash mitt. It is pricy at $30, but so worth it. I would NOT use this mitt on a really dirty car. Only light dirt and road depoits. Mud, tar, caked on sap, and things of that nature would be better suited to a more durable wash mitt... this thing needs to be pampered.

So... I reccomend this for anyone who wants a soft and plush wash mitt for their show car or well maintained vehicle that wants some amazing soap application.

Great review man I wanted to know about this mitt, I have heard that some guys use a cat or dog hair brush to fluff it back up after each use it also helps remove lodged particles.

I still have my Mothers lambs wool wash mitts that Jim sent me which are great. I still use that the DI sheep skin too but it is now at my girlfriends house to use on her car when I wash it for her, I just took some Mothers products and microfibers that Jim sent me a while back to test out as well as a second bucket to leave at her house for when I wash and detail her Scion TC. I should have done this sooner because I was doing single bucket washes and dumping the water half way then refilling the past few times.

Zat, what other wash mitts have you used to compare it to?

I'm curious how it compares the the Uber Genuine Wool Mitt v2, because this is what I have.

Ive only used a Sheepskin from AG, Lambswool from Mothers, and the Sheepskin from DI.

The main difference is the length of the fibers, the size, and this one seems more "natural".

I can see it, but it is very bright. Your monitor settings may be making it worse.
