Best way to clean microfiber rags?

Every time I clean and detail my car, for every thing I do I use a different microfiber rag. At the end I just put them in the washing mashine on heavy duty cycle without fabric softener cause I feel like the residue of it will be passed on to the car later on. Is this the propper way?

I wash mine in 2 separate loads, towels I"ve deemed dirty ie. Wheels, engine bay, heavily soiled paint. and clean towels ie. towels touching panels which for the most part are already clean, like polish buffing towels and such.

I put each load in the wash on Hot/Cold and put it on an extra rinse cycle. But I use gentle settings.

Some people will recommend a purpose made microfiber detergent, but I just use regular detergent and haven't had any problems yet.

I used to clean them on gentle cycle and it use to leave a residue ring in the washing masine wich made my wife almost kill me. But then I started doing the heavy cycle with just detergent and no more ring. I guess it's cleaning better now.
But should I use the fabric softener?

I run all my car towels separate from my other laundry. My microfibers don't hit the ground cause they pick up dirt rocks etc. If so I through them out.

Get a dedicated microfiber detergent like Chemical guys microfiber detergent or Microrestore. Or you could also use either Tide Free or All Free both are safe, wash with warm water with a second rinse cycle and dry on low to medium heat with NO lint sheets or fabric softeners you will ruin the microfibers if you do.

Yeah, all microfibers providers explicitly say not to use fabric softeners.

I use the CG detergent. It is a great product and pretty well priced.
