Need some experienced input (buffers)

As of yet I can't afford a nice buffer. For one time use (just to give the car a winterizing detail) would a cheap generic auto parts store one be okay? Or would it do more harm than good?

I wouldn't even bother if all you're looking for is some protection. Just pick up a meguiar's clay bar kit and some Meguiar's NXT 2.0 Tech Wax.

Wash, Clay, then wax the car with the included applicator. There's no need to waste money on one of those cheap buffers.

You'll end up spending $40-50 on that kind of setup anyway, which is halfway to a real buffer. siked is right, if you protect it, you can always correct it later and it shouldn't get much worse in the meantime.

I agreed with Sikedsyko. Meguiar's Tech Wax is basically their #21 sealant re-bottled, and #21 is one of my favorite sealants.

Get yourself a good clay kit (Though I'm a Meguiar's fanboy, Mother's makes a better OTC Claybar kit, so go with the Mother's kit, also make sure you pick up an extra bottle of Quick Detailer when you do it because I promise you'll run out), and then seal it up with an LSP.

When you've got the money, buy yourself a nice D/A and correction product line and you'll be able to fully correct then.

Thanks, guys.

I have the clays, sealants, and waxes. I keep up on it but just wanted to give it a nice de-waxing and fresh coats before it gets too cold and gross out. Applying them by hand just kills me from the fingers to the wrist when my wrist is already a bit funky. Just trying to be lazy and find a simpler way to apply stuff.

Plus trying to find a few days when the weathers nice enough to do it and I have time is getting to be a problem. By hand takes me forever.

One thing I have learned about applying waxes/sealants by hand: Slow down.

People always think they are limited on time and get hasty without even noticing. Take a couple of hours... take your time and do it slow. This is better for you and the car since you get better coverage.

It probably takes me about an hour to an hour and a half to wax the car. So probably about two hours since I don't regularly wax every nook and cranny of the body like I do with a fresh coat.

Thanks.
