You guys will be proud of me...

I FINALLY buckled down today and found time to get my car sealed. Menzerna Powerlock is amazing, for being the first sealant I've ever used it worked wonders! I also used Mother's Back-to-Black on trim/rubber pieces, polish my exhuast tips, and cleaned up my engine bay. Car is looking 1000000x better! I probably won't have enough time tonight to get it waxed, but it's under a canopy and it's not supposed to rain, so I can hopefully get it done tomorrow after work (don't have to drive it either).

If I can find my mom's or girlfriends camera, I'll snap a quick picture for you guys if the sun comes out.

SOOO happy to finally get this done. I also ordered a fitted car cover yesterday, and found a place to store it. Such a relief!

Congrats!

Did you get a chance to polish/compound before-hand? I've got powerlock on order along with a bunch of other goodies, as well as some time this weekend to get the ball rolling

Nice powerlock is a great sealant man and very easy to apply and remove 2 coats lasted me 3 months in the El Paso 100+ weather. And it was still going strong before I stripped it, the only reason I stripped the protection was to apply a Wolfs Chemicals Bodywrap nano sealant. Try and get some pics up

This has been a 4 week process trying to get this done. I started polishing one day thinking I could get it all done. I ran out of time because i basically ruined my pads (wouldn't stay on the backing plate, which i suspect is the reason for the holograming). So I tried it again with the extra finishing pad I had with not much result. So I ordered a new set of pads, and have tried twice since I got them to repolish/seal/wax, each time leading to being too busy and not getting it done. It's starting to get cold, I found a spot to store it, got a car cover, and they're talking snow tomorrow. So yesterday I decided that I was going to wash it after work, get a canopy from the neighbor to put it under, and wake up early today and seal/wax it. I'll redo it all again in the spring to fix the holograming , but I needed to get some kind of protection on before winter because it's been without any for about 4 weeks. I wasn't able to get the wax done, but my parents let me use the garage until I can get the waxing done (garage isn't big enough to be able to do it in there).

I agree, it did a very good job. If I can find time before waxing it, I'll try to get another coat of power lock on but it probably won't happen. I don't really think it's needed either since it will get driven less than 100 miles this winter, and be under a car cover the rest of the time and I'm just gonna redo it all next spring anyway. I think a coat of powerlock and a nice coat of mothers synwax will be sufficient for sitting under a car cover all winter. I'm just praying the car cover doesn't mar it, I got the custom fitted one from AM... so it better not screw up my paint!

This brings up a good question: is there anything to put on the paint that would prevent marring? I think I remember you saying the car would be outside but covered. I bought a super cheap cover for my car last winter when I got it, and where it was parked the wind just whipped it back and forth all the time. I didn't know better at the time, but it did a pretty good number on my paint.

My idea's so far for someone storing the car outside with a cover:

1. Saran wrap - this could be applied similar to vinyl - smoothed onto the paint and then peeled off after the winter. Does this sound like it could work, underneath a car cover? You could get maybe a heavy-duty version or something. What do you guys think?
2. Spray-on bra or plastidip is the only other thing I can think of at the moment. Lets get some ideas for Kohrs so his car can look like a million bucks next spring!

Well mines getting a redetail next spring reguardless But I'm hoping that it being a fitted car cover will help. If not... there's not much I can do. I'm not paying for a storage unit, and I don't have any garage to store it in. So it's either leave it uncovered for the snow to beat the shit out of it or put the cover on and hope it doesn't mar too bad.

You should be perfectly fine with just one coat of powerlock if its under the covercraft car cover during the winter. I do suggest you invest in the covercraft gust guards they are $12 this will ensure it doesnt blow of in the winter. I have them for my custom fitted covercraft Reflectech car cover for the GT.

I would not do either as they both wont let the the paint breath which is necessary man. Invest in a covercraft custom car cover we did. I didnt get the one from AM. I purchased the Reflectech it protects a little better than the deluxe that AM sells and is about $30 more. And get some gust guards for it this will help prevent flapping from the wind that in turn causes marring.

Like I said gust guards = reduced marring, re post LOL And with the center tie down you will be protected from the wind in 3 places.

Yep... good car cover + tie downs/gust guards + some good sealant protection.

Get a custom made cover that is a durable outdoor material. I personally have never lived up north, so I can't comment on what would be a good one to get for that climate. I can't even FATHOM leaving my Mustang outside during the winter up north ALL winter... I would be a nervous wreck all the time

Just remember every 3 weeks or so when its not snowing during the day take the cover off turn on your ride let it idle turn the steering wheel back and forth a couple of times, wash your cover with some zep citrus or simple green and dry it then go back and re cover it again. This helps keep your seals and gaskets from dry rotting and keeps your cover maintained which is better for your stang all around. I would also throw some Stabil in the gas tank

It will be about 5 houses away from mine in my grandparents driveway. They leave for florida every winter, so I'll stop by probably one every 2-3 days and start it/drive it up and down their driveway (it's about 200ft long). I'll deffinately get those guards tho, gonna order them now. Thanks!

EDIT: Actually... those gust guards seem pretty simple. I'm sure I can find something around the house to clamp on and run string through. Hell I could make some out of spare wood. Thanks for the suggestion though

Make sure you dont wash your ride until after 7 days have past. After that you will be good and use the suede microfibers wrapped on top of the Cquartz foamed applicator block this way you make sure you have enough fro the entire vehicle. The first time I applied it I used the cotton make up pads in the kit and those shits absorbed the Cquartz like crazy and I ended up with a half cover ride. I had to order a second 30 ml's to get the job dont and I still have half a bottle that I havent used. So make sure you dont use them at all or you will come up shy I can almost guarantee it since its your first time applying it, use the suede microfibers and the little foamed applicator block.
