use steel wool to clean them up with foaming glass cleaner if they are really bad and then put any good wheel polish on them and they should stay looking pretty good if you take care of them!

DONT USE STEEL WOOL. They are clear coated and you would scratch and swirl the shit out of them and make things worse lol. You need to use a regular automotive polish by hand with a foam applicator after you have washed and clayed the wheels really well. You can also use a Mothers PowerCone attached to a drill to get better cut with the polish. A polish like Menzerna 106FA or 203S will do the job. You then need to seal them with a wheel sealant like Prima Wheel Armour or Wolfs Chemicals Nano Wheel Sealant. Hit up Detailer Domain we get 10% off our cart with the Mustangs or Mustang discount code (forgot which it is but its one of those two) and shipping is a flat rate of $10

they are not chrome then they are polished aluminum then. steel wool works wonders on cars with salt scum on the chrome wheels and washing or claying wont touch them. and ive used chrome on new vettes, new yukons/enclaves/buicks etc etc. i cleaned a saturn sky redline last week and used them on the chrome wheels and chrome exhaust tips and they looked great!

Post a photo.

Cleaning recommendations are best made when we know what the challenge is, and when we can confirm the finish.

I use #0000 steel wool as well on exhaust tips and on bare aluminum wheels to clean them up then follow up with a metal polish and yes that does work well I agree. But if the wheels are clear coated which most likely they are because the factory cobra's in chrome are clear coated. Then you wouldn't want to go and do that, because all you doing is instilling more scratches and swirls in them, then when you started.

The reason you can polish exhaust tips that are chrome is because they are not clear coated and you can then follow up with a metal polish. If the wheels are clear coated which most factory wheels are you wouldn't want to do that. Think of it this way would you take steel wool to your paint, no right same thing goes to clear coated wheels. I also suggest you purchase a better wheel cleaner instead of resorting to steel wool, I know many others will agree with me on this man.

my wheels are 100% chrome, and are ford stamped wheels.(factory wheels) they are not in bad shape what so ever. i just want to polish them up and keep them looking good. cause i have good money invested in these wheels. i use nothing but mothers on my whole car as do i on every car i detail. just wanted to know the right polish to keep them looking like they came off the showroom floor, well close to it. these are my first set of chrome wheels ive ever owned, ive owned painted, aluminum, ect. but wanted to know like dannyboy was saying the best polish followed up by the best sealant that everyone has seemed to like the most. im detailing my car today. just got done washing, got the tire shine on and finished the pre wax cleaner. will be waxing it after the sealant is on then wanted to see about getting a chrome polish from a local autoparts store. lmk what you think. will post pic.

There are many quality products out there, but I'll have to put a shameless plug for Mothers Chrome Polish -- it's so mild it's safe for glass and provides polymer protection like a wax. It's available at the major stores and Walmart, currently in an 8-ounce bottle #05208. Towards spring time you'll start seeing California Gold Chrome Polish in a slightly improved and thicker formula in a 12 ounce upside-down bottle #05212.

I would strongly recommend avoid "chrome and metal" polishes or
chrome polish and rust remover" polishes as they tend to have abrasives to polish aluminum or remove rust, but those abrasive can scratch modern chrome.

If it's smoked plastic and thus smoked all the way through, it should polish (and sand) just fine in theory -- your mileage may vary with aftermarket stuff.

If it's a film or coating, probably not.

All the headlight kits are the same in that they remove a micro-thin layer by polishing or the entire outer layer by sanding followed by polishing.
