Orbital Buffer / Polisher

so i got one for christmas. i am in no way a detailer, but i like my car to look good. i have never in my life used one of these things and i am wondering if i can fuck the paint job up using it.

any tips or tricks i should know using one of these things?

i tried the search function, but i got all sorts of threads related to wheels and guns and im to lazy to keep searching.

any help would be appreciated.

Yeah there are bad ones, this one is not bad its just not that good. Its not that good because it runs too slow to even do any real correction work. It cant burn the paint off or even do any polishing for that matter because it just works at too slow of a rate. This is a Autopart store orbital polisher, not much you can do with it except use it to apply a coat of wax on your mustang which is ok if your not too much into detailing. Good thing for you its completely safe to use (just dont use the terry cloth bonnet it will scratch your finish). You would need a Dual Action polisher like the Porter Cable 7424XP, Griots Garage Dual Action Polisher, Meguiars Dual Action Polisher, or Flex 3401 Dual Action Polisher to get any real paint correction done (the removal of swirls, scratches, water spots, bird dropping etches, etc.) . Take a look at the link below to learn a bit more and if your still curious about getting into detailing let me know But like I said you can go ahead and use it without worrying, if your not really too much into detailing its better than applying your wax by hand and you can use it for that.

alright cool. thanks for the info. Like I said, not looking at going for full paint correction, just looking to make the car look decent. It was a gift so i will use it for now, but will look into getting something better down the road.
