Raaageeeeeeeeeee!

Alright, so I've been dating my girlfriend for a while now, and a few weeks after we started dating she got $1k worth of bodywork done to her car because the car was hit at one point and dented the rear passenger door and rear 1/4 panel. Anywho the shop which I won't name, did the work and gave her the car back a couple days later. They did an okay job, but the door handle was NOT replaced and it still has some minor damage on it. They also painted and blended the parts of the car that were dented and scratched and I can see a run in the paint that goes down along the window. The shop waited two weeks and had her come back to have pin stripes put on (stick on kind) and now a week later they are just literally BLOWING off the car! I am beyond furious because of the shoddy prep-work that was obviously not there, and the roughness of the repair work in general. She only washed the car once lightly, two bucket method, and no soap. In my eyes after working in a detailing shop for a while there is NO excuse for your pin stripes to be dangling off your car after a week of being applied. Anyone else who can vouch here? I'll try to get some shots of the work done tomorrow if possible before I go up to the shop with her...

Damn that sucks, improper application due to the shitty prep and paintwork caused them to never adhere correctly. You need a smooth clean non porous re-spray for it to adhere to the clear, but from what you posted it seems anything but that. I would just take it else where and get it done correctly, because they obviously dont know what they are doing so taking it back isnt going to fix the issue. I say demand a partial refund so you can take it to a better bodyshop if they are not willing to cooperate report them to the BBB.

Man this has me worried. My car goes into the body shop on Monday after hitting a deer last Saturday, and this is the first time in my life I've had to take one of my cars to let someone else work on it. The shop was recommended by a co-worker and when I talked to the guys they seemed professional and knowledgeable. You can bet I'll be inspecting the work very carefully before I take the car back.

Was your girlfriend paying out of pocket, or did insurance cover it? If you can get insurance on your side then they might be able to help and maybe have someone else take a look at it. The pinstripes dangling after a week is bad prep but could also be cheap vinyl with poor adhesives.

Sidenote, why didn't she use any soap? The soap is what provides the lubricity to the wash, using no soap would be more harmful to the paint job I would think.

I would think so too on the no soap part. And my mustang will be going into the local body shop at the gmc Buick dealer. And I will check on mine everyday lol oh getting front bumper redone. Fixing license plate holes and refinishing entire bumper for one hell of a deal I think at least!!!

Yeah she paid out of pocket...unfortunately. Also I talked to her about it today and she said when she went to the shop two weeks later they just put the stripes straight on the car in 10 minutes...no wiping or anything. I recommend no soap because some soaps contain polymers and carnuba in them which you don't want on fresh paint. Any fine scratches from a microfiber washing sponge I can remove easily with compound later on. Today I got a REAL good look at the car, and what I saw made me flip. She said when she got the car back there was paint fumes and chemicals all inside the car and overspray ALL over the seats and stuff. Also I noticed they taped everything off and just started shooting paint with NO prep work. When I opened up the rear door today I lost it, they got paint on her rubber trim, paint on her rubber door seal, even on a rubber pump stop they were too lazy to just pull out and set aside. There is rough overspray all over the inside of the door, so I'll have to claybar the hell out of it to get it off. They also didn't even worry about around her doorhandle for prepwork, it's all rough and the blend lines aren't lines, they are gobs of paint, it's just horrific. The worst part is her dad is friends with the owner, and doesn't wanna raise cane. I told my gf to never go to that shop again. She told me she only paid $600 for the work, but even so I could have done better with some 2000 grit, some rattle cans, and a roll of painters tape...she took me by the shop today and they were closed, no wonder it was one of those shops where once you see it, you know why her car ended up how it is now....there was only two cars there that DIDN'T have 22"-26" rims on it. Sketch as can be. Her dad does regular business with these people, and I HATE to see people get taken for a ride, but hey what can you do. Her dad is best friends with the guy, not gonna get in the middle of it.
