Hit the detailing stickies for a good summary of clay barring. It will remove water spots if they are deposits on top of the paint. If they've had time to etch into the clear coat, it will not.

As for clay barring the vinyl, put a line of painters tape at the edge of the vinyl and paint to prevent the clay bar from getting caught on the edge and possibly lifting up the vinyl.

go to autozone and buy the mothers clay bar kit.

you should always clay bar before waxing and or buffing.

wash your car first very well. use the spray detailer and then rub the clay bar over the paint it will have some friction keep going if it gets dry spray it again once you have no resistance while rubbing then move on. you should be able to rub your hand over it and it will feel much smoother then the area that has not been clay bared.

when the clay bar starts to get discolored that means it is getting dirty and kneed the bar into itsseld till it looks clean again. the clay removes all the dirt that is imbedded in the paint that does not come out with washing. when you see swirl marks in a car that was just buffed they did not clay bar before hand. all they did was sand their paint down...

I agree with everything except this last statement in red. If someone is going to go through the hassle of buffing a car, they aren't going to leave swirls unless they're incompetent. While clay-barring is a good idea you shouldn't need to do it more than twice a yea; A multi-step polish will take care of any swirl marks that could be caused by not clay-barring.

Depending on the severity of the water spots, clay bar may remove them.

Are they light deposits or etching? Deposits will often come off with clay and/or polishing with a cleaner wax, but claying is still recommended regardless. Etching will require polishing.

We have a good How To video on our website.
