water spots...

ok, finally tackling a full detail on my car. Started on the hood with a white foam pad and megs 105. Seems to have gotten most of the swirls, but i see these dots that seem to be whats left of the water spots. Unfortunately my car is darkkkk grey and shows spots very badly, and they are everywhere... what could cure this?

if it's etched not a whole lot you can do besides wetsand to level and repaint. it sucks but that's the way it works. my car is covered in them.

Believe it or not, try vinegar , and a clean cotton towel. It may work I had an old 70 Mach 1 that had original paint and after alot, i mean alot of individual spot rubs, they came clean, but it beats the repaint, and hey it may not even work, but its worth a try, and it wont damage paint.

A distilled vinegar wipe down will only remove non etched water spots not etched in ones. Secondly M105 is typically used with a pad with a higher cut than white. White pads are for polishing not compounding. I suggest a green pad but preferably a yellow pad if your using a Dual Action Polisher or for the most cut go with Surbuf R pads. They take the water spots out easily M105 on a Dual Action Polisher like the PC 7424XP or Griots Garage DA they will even remove even sanding scratches. I have a pair that were only used once on a few panels then washed. I can sell them to you for $12 plus $5 to ship them via USPS priority mail which is 2 to 3 days. Let me know man.

^^This. Sounds like you just need to use a more aggressive pad combo, because M105 will take out some serious stuff.

Posting pics can always help though.

Danny got this one. A white pad is normally used with a polish like M205. For Compounding you need Yellow/Orange/Green.

While I agree that M105 is for compounding, M105 is also pad dependent and can be used as an in-between of M105 (compounding) and M205 (white)... Basically M105 on a white pad will have a cut between M105 orange and M205 white.

Etching will require wetsanding or wool on a rotary. Possibly Surbuf could remove them, but I've never used them.
