clay bar

I clayed my car for the first time yesterday, i used the mothers kit with the spray detailer and clay, it cleaned up nicely, it even took away some surface spots that i had. After i went to work some dust from some landscapers near by settled on it and you could see every freakin spec. So...

1. Should i have waxed it after i clayed, i didnt because im going to buy a polisher soon, clay it again and take care of the swirls then wax/seal.
The reason i ask this is because while my car is really smooth now and shiny, after it seems like every dust particle is visible on the finish and the swirls stand out worse. its almost like the paint is more vulnerable now...should i have waxed?

Secondly, when i clay the car before the polish, should i use a clay lubricant, not a detailer, so that it takes the wax off too, so i cut the clear better? And should i get a better clay from autogeek?

Thanks, im pretty well read and learned on what needs to be done, now its just doing it right thats left lol.

You have to wax after you clay. Right now you have nothing protecting your paint. Now when you clay again. You'll be fine using your qd.

I always wax immediately after I clay bar just for that very reason, so that dust won't settle between the surface of the paint and the coat of wax. As swervo said, just clay it up one more time and you should be good to go!

DAMN IT. Ok, stupid move, idk why i didnt think about that, do i need to clay again ASAP, or do i have a couple days? I did use a detail spray so its not totally naked, i rinse the car off when i got home today to get the crap off. Should i clay it Asap?

UGH, seriously...what a tard i am, second time wont take as long im sure but im gonna have to be really careful when i wash it.

Im gonna wake up early in the morning tomorrow before i go to work and VERY carefully wash it, clay it, and wax it.

Im so frustrated right now, idk what i was thinking....im really not this stupid. lol

Lol happens to the best of us man!

I think once you wash/clay/wax it tomorrow you'll be just fine. As it sits now it's just like a car that has never been waxed before so you'll wanna protect the paint ASAP but its not like if you wait a day you won't have a shiny car anymore

Good luck! And post pics!

Well when i got home i sheeted my car to get most of the dust off, then i turned up the pressure and tried to gentley but firmly spray off the body, then i blowdried, i just went to the store and it seems to be ok, its shiny as hell and still really smooth, i dont think i had much debris bond itself to the paint. I picked up another Mothers clay kit, im wakin up early in the morning and correcting my mistake. I imagine since i just clayed it yesterday it wont take long at all to do it this time.

Lesson learned. lol, I cant wait to get those swirls out.

Yea the wax should get those swirls out no problem! What kind of wax are you using out of curiosity?

You can go pick up some Meguiars Ultimate Quick Wax at any autoparts stor and use that as protection while you wait until you can do the correction. Then you can re wash, clay, do 2 IPA wipedowns and then proceed to correcting the Mach. Make sure you have proper lighting, a 1000 watt halogen tripod is the minimal lighting you should be using when you do the correction work. Without it you will turn out subpar work, quality microfibers are also key if you dont have some I suggest picking up at least 16 quality microfibers detailers domain has a sale on theirs and we get a discount of 10% .

Im washing, claying and waxing in the morning so no need for quick wax, its gonna be a few weeks before i polish, so ill get it all good tomorrow and then towards the beginning of march ill wash, dry, clay, polish, glaze, wax.

Or something like that, ill def check out the lighting part as well.

Wax will only temporarily fill in swirls for short term visual improvement, in order to get swirls out completely you have to clay off all wax and particle to get all the way to the clear coat and use a rotary or Dual Action power polisher with a rubbing compound to polish out the swirls permanently, then wax. The Shine your cars paint has should be caused by the polish of your clearcoat, wax should do nothing but protect it.

So ive come to know.

I use Megs NXT 2.0, ive been told its about the best you can get at your average autoparts store. I like it alot, Ive been using it for about 3 years, im revamping some of my products. I like Wolfgang at autogeek.net, they are more expensive but you get what you pay for. NXT has a good life to it.

Im going to buy a Griots DA polisher, and about 3 different compounds for getting my swirls out. Autogeek is gonna rob me lol

I know what you're saying, I used to do auto-body

I'd love to get a Mikita buffer and buff the entire car, but I don't have the $200, plus glaze and polish, to spare

I also use NXT 2.0 and think it gives an awesome deep black look

Im about to spend about 250 on cleaning stuff, but its mostly a 1 time thing, compounds last a while, its 19.99 for a 64oz wolfgang.

But im loadin up the wax fool lol

So i rewashed, and reclayed about 80%, the car really didnt need clay again cause its been all of 36 hours but i did most of it anyways, it was all smooth from the start and my clay looked pretty new when i was done lol. Then i waxed and buffed it, as i should of before and oh my dang shes pretty. Wax temporarily filled in the majority of my swirls for now til i get the polisher.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions folks.

Yeah I was going to say re-claying isn't going to help much, but why not? Post up some pictures of this beast!

ill post some pics in a few days, she looks good now, especially at night, looks wet. I cant wait to polish out the swirls and really get it deep black. I need to order a bunch of crap from autogeek, new buckets, grit gaurds, da polisher, and all the liquids to go along with it.
