No its not a must...
Its nice to have but not a must... You just have to make sure the bottle is open before you get to the staging lanes...Rather then just being able to hit a button and open it... |

Plus, if your arms are long enough and the bottle's in an accessible position, you can just let the rear seat down and reach through to open it up. That's what I had to do before getting my bottle opener.
