ride quality of springs

ok, so im starting to think about lowering springs(not sure if i want them yet but trying to do some homework first i guess)

right now i have the stock springs, with heavyduty bilstein shocks and struts.
i also have an STB and SFCs.

and its a vert.

soif you havent figured out by now, its ok on smooth roads but on bumps? whoa man forget about it.

anyway, are there any lowering springs (moderate ones, not slammed) that can actually improve my ride q.?

or is lower pretty much always going to come with some added harshness.

after some looking around i was interested in the eibach prokits or maybe the H&Rs.

but just looking for opinions here

Anytime you lower the ride height, you're going to sacrafice quality. I have H&R Supersports and Tokico shocks and struts, and I'm not going to lie to you, its not a smooth ride at all. But the car stucks to the road like it was glued to it.

I might suggest a set of MM Full Length Subframe connectors first, especially since youre a vert.

you got a lot of options out there;
here is what i used: Tokico Advanced Handling Package

#HPK237
-Tokico HP Struts
-Tokico HP Shocks
-Tokico 1.5" sport lowering springs

I used mine as a daily driver and it is not that bad, maybe on the highway speedbumps we have around here, but no scrapage on real speed bumps. Just keep in mind that any lowering over 1.4" is gonna require the use of caster/camber plates to obtain a proper alignment. I recommend getting the MM 4-bolt cc plates regardless of drop anytime you are gonna remove the struts anyways, just for the adjustablity you wouldn't believe what a little lowering and cc adjustments will do for you on the corners, add a rear swaybar to the mix and you can banging out some corners or autoX. Also be aware that there are differant spring ratings and some are matched for differant struts/shocks so not picking the right mix of parts is also key in the ride comfort.

this is what i have my c/c and toe set at:
Toe In: 1/16"
Camber: -1°
Caster: +2.6°

look for a set of progressive rate springs. That will be smoother than a set of fixed rate springs.

I guess thats what I get for posting when I just woke up

Also; [Shameless Plug]H&R Supersports > Eibach [/Shamless Plug]

On some other websites, youll see they have somewhat of a cult following, similar to Zaino

why do you say the HR are better than the eibach?

looking at that link posted before, the HR super sports are rated at 700-760 275-300, front and rear respectively.

the eibachs are at 425-530 200-300, respectively.

i dont know if i would enjoy going as stiff as 700. the way my car is now, i feel like going to 700 would make it really painful to drive

btw if i decide i do want to get springs, and it looks like if i do ill be going down an inch or so, (based on the fact that i dont want to go much lower than that anyhow), will i need to get CC plates (or any other fancy suspension gizmos) or will a normal alignment be ok

your alignment will be not far off (less than half a degree) catser or camber with a drop of 1". i have ford racing C springs which drop 1.2" and i got an alignment and it is nearly perfect factory alignment specs. but with any drop, you will need c/c plates to align perfectly, but it isnt necessary until 1.5" drop or more

ok then, in that case i wont worry about it. the eibachs for example, advertise a 1.5" but im assuming it wouldnt even be that much since so many people say their cars dont lower by the amount the companies say they do...

my other uestion is, how hard is it to do springs on ones own without any fancy tools?

a few hours. an hour per side if you've never done anyhting like it before. i just dropped my car off at a muffler/brake/suspension shop and put down 200 bucks and went out for lunch. i could have done it with help of a friend, but it was during a busy work/school schedule for me.

i figured that, but im getting to the point where all the money the car has eaten is noticeable, and im starting to think like this: if 200 bucks is what it costs to have X installed, then i could do it myself and buy a new Y"

so for example, installing springs could "pay" for new headers (or something like that )

and plus for something so simple, why not?

Suspension installs are very straightforward and a good place to start working on your own car. Thats what I did, just plan a solid day, grab as many different sets of instructions as you can, and make sure you have all the tools they'll say youll need.

Look for one by a man called Spreadman, he has a yellow 99-04 GT, youll see lots of pics and really quality instructions from him. Theyre the ones I used for my install.
