Replacing Shocks

Hey, I have a question, and I used the search but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for, so:

My shocks are rusted and make a loud squeaking sound when I drive over speed bumps, etc. I am very annoyed at this and want to replace my shocks. However, since I am replacing them, is there something I can do to lower my ride height at the same time? Maybe a specific set of shocks (was thinking Eibachs)? Or, in order to lower my ride height, am I going to need to buy lowering springs as well? I don't know much about suspensions...

The mustang is a 2002 GT.

Thanks in advance for your help.

shocks wont change your ride height.
is the sound in the front or back?
if its in the back its cheap..
if its in the front its not so cheap
when you have your springs off you could either replace them to lower you car.. or cut them.. it makes a less comfy ride but if your looking for dirt cheap you CAN do it. i just dont recommend it, although i did it on my first car... lol

Well that's good... I hate having a perfectly clean car, shined up wheels, trying to show off, the exhausts sounding awesome, and then take off and *SQUEEEEAAAAAK*. Ruins the whole effect... =\

Hmm... I don't really know how to do it, if you don't mind to walk me through it, it would help... or at least a link to a vid/how-to article. I don't have the time to do it right now though, too much crap I have to do for college. I will probably take my tax refund and buy some and install them over my spring break (second week of March).

its very simple man.. you take apart the liner in your trunk and at each side there is a bolt that sticks up.. i cant remember the size you will need.. maybe like a 15mm deep socket.. you unscrew that one on each side.. then you take off your wheels after you jack it up. and theres going to be a bolt that goes through the shock.. cant remember the sizes but im pretty sure you will need a 15 and a 17.. use them both at the same time on seperate side and take the 2inch bolt completly out.. then your shock should come off.. then just do the same with the other side.. to make things easier what i did was use a air rachet.. it makes the job possible in less than 30 minutes.. its soooo simple man. any questions just PM me..

Thanks for the info, it'll help me a lot when I do it.

I tried to upload a pic of my car into my signature... I uploaded it and it's showing up on my signature page, but it's not showing up under my posts... any idea why that is?

edit: nevermind, didn't realize it didn't show up until i made a new post...

Yeah, it just needs some mods... not sure what yet though. It has custom exhausts (no idea what kind, the guy before me put them on), short throw shifter, tinted windows, and wheels from americanmuscle.com. Deciding on what to do next with my stimulus/tax refund, heh.

Even for a manual? I've heard 4.10 is a little high for a stick shift, but I don't really know myself. Although, with 18" wheels it would probably help a lot to get 4.10 over 3.73.

i havent read the entire thread, but i can say the eibach shocks are damn nice, but they are shorter shocks than stock, so if you havent lowered your car you cannot use these shocks. get the prokit springs and the prodamper shocks and you've got a killer suspension setup.
