Sounds like either a few loose pan bolts or a tailshaft seal. Either one will be an easy fix.

our engines have a notrious pcv oiling issue, often cleaning the TB and IAC is required and at your milage im sure you have a nice build up of sludge in your upper intake. check out your pcv valve too. you might want to pull the rear two plugs to see if you have any deposit buildup maybe even replace because those will show it first.

could be the rear main seal leaking?

i got the idle close to not surging as much. i guess i could clean it again and it would be perfect. the no low range power problem still exists and i think it is related to my transmission. i probably leaked that 1.5 qts of tranny fluid in 3 days or so. my transmission from the oil pan back is covered in sludge and tranny fluid. here is a pic with the bottom being toward the front of the car:

i wiped the tranny down to take a picture of this dent i found. would a dent like this cause this sort of problem? would a leaking transmission (auto by the way) cause this loss of low range power? how would you fix something like this?

Sounds to me like you might have some clogged injectors. That would keep you from having the abuilty to take off froma stop. Try useing some injector cleaner in your gas and if that doesn't work and you rule out all other posibuilties, sometimes the injectors get so clogged the only way to unclog is to take them out and clean them by hand.

that is actually normal?! hmm. well i ran a bottle of stp fuel injector cleaner in half a tank of gas and it is driving the same horrible way again. i checked the air filter, spark plugs/wires, fuel filter.

i get horrible gas milage as well. do you think long tube headers on a tune for all my other mods excpet the long tubes would cause this air/fuel issue? it does seem like an air/fuel issue though right? i will call my uncle and have his mechanic friends look at it soon.

not good I would change it and the filter..see if the convertor has a drain plug...you need to invest in a transcooler ASAP.

when is the last time or ever changed the PVC valve?..maf? throttle body?

bg products make the best IMO fuel injection clean about 14.00 a can

Before the actual problem started, did you get on the gas alot? A really bad clogged Cat converter can cause poor gas mileage. Due to redlineing the rpms' alot. And it can also kill an injector. My bros v6 explorer used to roll up to stop signs then when you take off it would stall or hesitate. I had to take the injectors out and clean them throughly and put new caps on them.

Lucas Fuel injector cleaner is prolly the best i recommend......if you wanna give it a try again. Make sure you have a full tank of gas with a full bottle of Lucas. If all else fails go to your local autozone and see if somethin shows up on their computer when they hook it up to your car(they'll do it for free).

I coulda tried to help since my grandpa designed that transmission, but when he died my grandma didn't think anyone would want the schematics and threw them out. They were having a lot of problems with them over in china about a year ago.

i have off road exhaust- long tube headers and magnaflow mufflers all in stainless steel 2.5" mandrel bent tubing. so the catalytic converter thing (or any exhaust restriction) is ruled out. also, i checked the cel codes with my xcal 2 and only got one code for hot air intake temperature- which led me to believe the air filter might be clogged or something. i cleared the code and it never came back. anyways my uncle is coming tomorrow to take a look at it, hopefully it is nothing serious

few things that i think of are MAF, PVC valve, O2's, vac leak.... if the PVC valve is stuck closed and you pressurize the crankcase you can pop out your rear main seal, but with that many miles and some harder driving seems about normal seepage. also with that many miles your 4r70w it is well due trans filter replacement.

It could be the torque converter baecause that would explain why it is slow off the start but then is of in higher rpms. Id look into it man, after that many miles some things just fail not totaly due to aggressive driving just lots of miles and lots of motion just takes a toll.

a lot of transmission problems are related to fluid levels, should always be one of the first things you check
