Danger in up shifting without the clutch?

I've got a '97 Mustang GT.. I've been told I can up shift without the clutch.
I tried it a little bit today on the freeway and after some red lights and I got it to work smoothly most of the time, I grinded a little a couple times but nothing huge.

As long as you do it right, does it cause any damage?

And what about down shifting?

It can be done either way. You just have to match the engine revs to the gear speed. If you're off by a little bit then you're going to grind. If done properly, then it doesn't cause any damage and is actually better for the tranny b/c you don't need the syncros. If done incorrectly, it's terrible.

Why run the risk of causing damage when you have a perfectly good clutch?

your better off using the clutch. in a car whats the big deal? as part of my job i have to drive a 24' truck, and its manual transmission is designed to be shifted without the clutch, so you use it in that its harder to shift, but in a car, whats the point? its so easy anyways and you dont risk damaging the gears...the risks out weigh the possible benefits.

No grind = no problem. You can do it up or down, but if you do it a lot, chances are you will end up grinding the gears and hurting the syncros. just use the clutch. I'll do it sometimes if i have my hands full and i'm driving with my knee and need to shift without taking my knee off the wheel.
