How to Seafoam Your Mustang
So you have decided to Seafoam your 99-04 V8 mustang to clean out all the carbon in the motor, but your not sure what to do? Don't worry about, I got your back.
The first thing you are going to do is drive to your local auto store and pick up a can of Seafoam. Next you would you car to run for about 5-10mins to get it up to temp, (if you just got back from the auto store you should be all set, but check the temp to be sure). You want the car to be at temp so that when the Seafoam goes in it will better break up any carbon that's in the motor. Pop the hood and find the Vacuum line. ![]() Now that you know where the vacuum line is, you should pop it off and turn the elbow up. ![]() Find or make a funnel that will fit into the vacuum elbow. ![]() Now you are ready to add the Seafoam to your car! ![]() *IMPORTANT* If you plan to do this on your own, listen up. Before you unplug the vacuum line you will want the car to be running. Be ready to use your thumb to cover the vacuum line to keep the motor running. Have the funnel and Seafoam ready to go. (If you got a friend handy, have them sit in the car to start it up. This way you can have the vacuum line off and plugged for the start up.) Have the Seafoam can opened and the funnel ready. You are going to use your thumb inside the funnel to control the flow of Seafoam. ![]() *DO NOT USE GLOVES* If you use a glove you run the risk of the rubber/dirt coming off your thumb and getting sucked into the motor. That = BAD. With the motor running, the funnel and Seafoam ready, start to pour 1/3 of the can into the vacuum line SLOWLY and without having the motor stall. ![]() After you pour in 1/3 of the can into the motor, shut the car off and hook the vacuum line back up. Let the car sit for about 10mins and then for the fun part. *You might want to video tape this* Start the car and let it run for a while in a well ventilated area (AKA outside). Give it some gas. The more smoke you have coming out of the tail, the more carbon you had in the motor. Hope this helps you out with Seafoaming the motor of your car. Please note that this is just for how to add Seafoam to the vacuum line only. Seafoam can also be added to the gas and oil of your car, but that's the easy thing to do. Forgot to say this. Pics are for a 2004 Mustang GT, but you get the idea.

Does this stuff actually work? Is the smoke coming from the carbon, or is it the seafoam that's smoking?
I'm considering it, and i guess it probably wont hurt anything.

It's a bit of both. The Seafoam it self will make smoke come out the tail pipe, but there is also carbon in the smoke as well. If you watch the video I put up you will see white smoke first (mostly the Seafoam) and then it gets a little darker (thats the carbon). It does do a good job of cleaning out carbon from the motor.

at work when we seafoam a car we just pull a vac line and stick it into the can of seafoam. it sucks it up into the car and you just pull it out every once in a while and see how much you've used. much easier than pooring it into the vac lines.

How do you just leave the vac line in the can of seafoam? Doesn't the car stall?

i used a funnel and quick hands to keep the car from stalling. It's best to get a friend (that knows cars or can do what you say) to help you. i would put my thumb over the vac to keep it from stalling out. It was tough to do, but i got it done.
