How to unlock a locked tuner?

Hi my name is Hugo, I'm new to this forum, and I have a question regarding a possible purchase of a locked tuner.

I read on another thread that if you disable PATS, you can use the tuner even if it is locked. How exactly is that possible? Is the tuner going to always stay locked? How are you able to use it on your car if it is locked?

you can only use the car on your car if it is unlocked. once you use those tuners on a car they become "vin locked" which allows them to only tune the vin that they are currently attached to. to unlock a tuner you have to either (1) send it in to the company to get it unlocked (gonna cost ya tho) or (2) have the seller use the tuner to put the stock tune back on their car before selling it to you.

as far as turning PATS off, i just wouldnt do it.
